Char can correct me if I'm wrong but the only thing "active" or that gets updated on this website is the Discussion Forum. Check the Tour Dates section to see what I mean. I think the webmaster, Florian, has moved on to other things. It is very nice of him to leave it up and running, IMNSHO, but as for updates, which I would love to see, or help with myself, and I know many board members could do it themselves, John, Al, and Gord come to mind and I am sure there are other webheads among us. But getting the security rights and priveleges would be required as a first step and if anyone here has been in touch with Florian since his trip across the pond some years back they're not talking. The short answer is; no updates anytime soon

Unfortunately the contents of this website are basically on Florian's computer and as such I just can't go into this website and monkey with it just as Florian can't go into mine and tamper with it.... my Lightfoot pages gets updated just not everyweek LOL there is a thing called work I have to attend to :P

One thing for certain is that this forum needs new indexes created. It will save a lot of webspace which is $$. It is very easy to do. Char should be able to use her password to do this. I have the link to the control panel to this forum and can tell you how to do it. 2 very easy steps.

Another thing, surfers should not be allowed to post unless they register. Unique emails should also be reqired to stop regulars who post under alias'. There are ways to accomplish this using this forum software.

These message forums have built in options which allow the board administrators to control unwanted posts from surfers such as yourself. Anybody can post, you just have to register. Big deal. These options are there for a reason. Perhaps to stop buttheads like yourself from posting and hiding like a rat.

How ironic that this topic should be entitled HARMONY

Frankly, I have enough real problems in my life without my little oasis of calm becoming a war zone.

I hope she won’t mind but I am reposting violet Blue Horse’s brilliant piece from only seven months ago. (Such short memories, some of you – if you even bothered reading it!)

Watchman was making a serious point and, even if some people do not necessarily agree with him, his views should be treated with respect and discussed sensibly; not attacked in such a puerile fashion.

Internet Bullies thrive on trying to make others feel foolish, insignificant. They openly ridicule others and attempt to embarrass them. It is a bullying of words and emotions rather than fists and brawn. They are rarely capable of having a discussion without ridiculing others because they cannot allow other people to express views they do not agree with. They fear confronting themselves on any level and must make as much noise as often as possible to drown out any alternative views. Like the Schoolyard Bully they are severely lacking in self-esteem. They are pretty sad people. The only joy they find in Internet discussion is in being right, or making others feel bad.

The part that I find most humorous about them is their ability to project onto others their most obvious faults. Projection, for some reason, seems to be the lifeblood of Internet Bullies. Projection is of course a totally blind occurrence in people and a clue to their innermost workings. The bully has no clue that they are projecting onto others their issues, and would vehemently deny it. They are not lying, they’re just not capable of recognizing what they are doing. There are a few schools of thought on projection. Some believe it is an attempt by an individual to express subconscious knowledge; they project onto others that which they cannot allow themselves to consciously express as an understand of themselves. Some believe it is simply the workings of a human blinded to their own faults. Still others believe it is a misguided, subconscious attempt to have those projected beliefs recognized as their own; in effect they want their cover to be blown.

In short, Internet Bullies are obnoxious, they’re frustrating, but more than anything else they’re sad people busily engaged in trying to pump up their fragile self esteem at the expense of others. And there’s not much you can do about it because bullies are blind to their faults. They will continue to drive people away from the board, and there's nothing you will ever say to them that will have any effect.

I wouldn't know how to do anything on this website..and I wouldn't anyway because it is Florian's. I haven't heard rom him in a LONG time - I e-mail frequently...no answer...
Val's site at www.gordonlightfoot.com is where I go for up to date info if I have missed it here in Toronto. She has a mailing list you can get on as well. If I hear from Florian I will ask him about some changes/additions....

You obviously have permission to handle forum related issues because he made you a moderator. It really needs indexed because there is a ton of wasted space this forum is taking up. All you have to do click on a button and it does it for you. Nothing can be lost and you will not see a difference in anything as far as what you see. It's kind of like defragmenting your hard drive every month. It's make your computer run more efficiently.

It's not obvious - I have no permission from Florian to do anything but moderate the message board. When and if he gives me such permission I am not sure I would know what to do anyway. Even with instructions.

i don't know loose from tight but I'm glad that Florian affords us this space to congegrate even if the site is not updated. he's a very generous but busy fellow and is missed dearly. one of the many highlights and surprises of the Massey 2001 convention here in Toronto was turning around in the aisle of Massey Hall and getting a huge bear hug and looking into his wonderful face for the first time. after i let out a very loud scream i noticed that most of the patrons in Massey that night were looking at us. it was quite a night!
I may have to take him up on his offer to come and visit him in Vienna!

Char-I have never heard much about the elusive Florian other than he is not around anymore. Can you give us new people the lowdown and the history of Florian and the forum?

I know you don't agree with my analogy that corfid is like an ocean liner without fuel. It's still a nice place to hang out but it's not going anyplace. I too appreciate the fact that Florian leaves it up and that the discussion forum is still alive and well. I remember the post that described his visit that was only up for a few hours - maybe now would be an appropriate time and season to describe our benefactor and host. Perhaps he still reads the posts now and then ? Ya Think?

That was my point as I said earlier. Just trying to help save him some money. I think someday we will try and enter the forum and it will be gone. I have seen it happen before but I hope that will not be the case here.

People can take suggestions as critisism if they want. But don't take good advice and wash it down the drain because you have a problem with the person giving it. And this forum is run very loosely. That may be good or it may be bad. It doesn't matter to me, it's just an observation and not meant as a critisism. My forum is run loosely in many respects but in others it is not.

By the way, last year or the year before, I emailed him and offered to help pay for this site. I saw that he was no longer active and wanted to ensure that it remained in place for everybody to enjoy. Never got a response but the offer is still open.

Ahhh, my computer "intelligence" is going to show, I didn't know anybody had to pay for this. Nice offer Watchman, could we have Gordon Lightfoot forum dues?

Suggestions are fine if they are made to the person who can implement them or if they see them. No criticism taken - regardless of who gives the advice. I can't do anything about the running of this site. Don't make it more than that please.

Florian gives a bit of info in the section on the HOME page titled "About This Website."
I am not comfortable giving any personal info about him because I don't have permission and I know he is a very private man. My own personal opinion is that he is a generous, kind-hearted man who is a very successful businessman. At one time he did live in Toronto, hails from Germany and now resides in beautiful Vienna, Austria. I don't even have a pic of him! One of the few regrets I have about May 2001. I am sure if Florian were to decide to shut this site down for any reason it would not be without warning and a search to find some way to keep it running. I am sad that he is so busy as I always enjoyed his e-mails and humour. Many of us miss him and I hope when Gord gets back on satge at Massey taht the elusive Florian comes back for a big bear hug!
