IS THERE ANY SONG BY GORD IN WHICH YOU LIKE IT, BUT WISH THERE WAS SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT, MINE WOULD BE "CABARET" I REALY LIKE THE SONG, IT JUST TAKES WAY TO LONG TO GET THE WORDS STARTED, TO MUCH OF A MUSICAL INTRO ALMOST LIKE LED ZEPELIN YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I don't know how it sounds like Led zeppelin, but I agree with you about Cabaret. I much prefer the faster section of it towards the end (...from the coast of california)

I don't believe in miracles if it's all the same by you
Your wishes would come true if I had my say Whether it's right or wrong the words of every song Remind us of a love we knew where love should not go wrong In yesterday Hang on ye drifters now you got so much to go and gamble on Watch out for the shifting sand where ever you may ramble Even now as I look back and see all that's come to pass I can't remember how it was I got here Look around this place there's a smile on every face We're somewhere in the afterglow out there among the stars Out there among the bars Hang on ye drifters now you got places to go and people to meet Watch out for the shifting tide where ever you may travel. I know I should not complain because life's been good to me It feels real good to be stranded on my own Be that as it may be we are what we are I'll find you in the afterglow out there among the stars Of yesteryear Hang on ye drifters now you got so much to go and gamble on Watch out for the shifting sand where ever you may ramble All you drifters now you got places to go and people to meet Watch out for the shifting tide where ever you may travel. ...If I had my way...I'd change the first line to "I do believe in miracles". I really like the song but find myself changing the lyric when I sing along to reflect a more positive emotion...just one man's opinion. |

I would re-do Talking In Your Sleep. It's just "way" to country,as is "You Are What I Am". I'd certainly scale down,"Anything For Love" to just piano, bass, guitar, easy drumming and maybe a nice deep chello. Now that I've said 'chello' I'll say, catch ya on the flipside of Sundown! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

I think the slow beginning in "Cabarat" works well with the song because it builds you up to the fast part. Without it, I don't think the fast part would have quite as much impact.

What are the words in the chanting part of Talking In Your Sleep? Cathy |
Cathy,I'd like to say I know the answer but I don't. I'd have to go home and listen. I've only been familiar with his larger catalouge of songs since late last summer. I'll go home and listen and come back next time. Nobody post the answer until then, please? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif (Itwouldn't be the chant from Michael Zager's "Let's All Chant" would it? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Bye,now! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Ooo! I know that one!
Richard Harison, who worked for Gord at the time as (I think) a sound engineer, said on another board that it was "pick a potato." |

PS. He also said that the "zippo lighter" was actually a poptop beer can being opened. Carling Black Label, I think.

Speaking of Salute. I forgot to add that I thought the picture on back, just like on Waiting, would have made a better cover. I also went back and relistened to the LP since I got it out to re-check the cover. I find I like Whispers Of The North and Gotta Get Away more than I did before. Maybe because I was in a more relaxed atmosphere than the first time. I also tried Someone To Believe In but while I think the lyrics are great,I still cannot get into the musical side of it. I guess I just like Gord when he keeps it simple. Lastly,I forgot to mention Sunday Concert. I'll just say it's an okay live shot but the lighting makes his shirt look pink and that color does not agree with him. As for greatest hits packages, except Songbook, they're not much but his picture is on the front of them. Later! Outta time! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif (Okay,I don't know how this message I posted for the Album cover topic got on this thread but that's where it's supposed to be! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif If someone can put it over there I'd appreciate it! Somethin' weird's goin' on! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif )

In "East Of Midnight" after the lyrics "It takes a bit of my heart" and "Now thats a pretty good start", I would get read of that trumpet sound. It makes it sound too 80sh to me.

Well now, I was thinking about this same topic on the same day this topic got started!!! Believe it or not. But anyway, in "East Of Midnight" after the lyrics "It takes a bit of my heart" and "Now thats a pretty good start", I would get read of that trumpet sound. It makes it sound too 80sh to me. Gord has actually done an acoustic version of East Of Midnight, and a few years back used to play it in concerts quite often. I never was very fond of the song, but the acoustic version is quite nice. Cathy |
