If we're talkin' composers.......there are many good ones, and mind you, some folk singers are better performers than writers.
Here's some great songwriters: Christine Lavin Phil Ochs John Prine James Taylor Joni Mitchell Bob Dylan Gordon Lightfoot is a top-shelf writer. 1) Look at how many songs he's written, and there are no "fillers". 2)The pure imagery his words paint when combined with his music - you can envision the whole story. |

I'm no expert on folk stars. I like many types of music. My favorite "acoustic guitar" bands are:
Gordon Lightfoot Cat Stevens Al Stewart Tony Rice Bela Fleck |

I'd like to hear GL sing "He Went To Paris" sung by Jimmy Buffet. It might sound good or we may not get done listening to the song before we say, "The Hell with this" but it would be interesting.

Gordon
Paul Simon Jim Croce Tom Paxton Stan Rogers. Next week, the last two will probably be different, but Gord will always be on top. And if the ampsters don't stop being so mean, I may change the second one, too. Cathy [This message has been edited by Cathy (edited June 07, 2003).] |
Wow. I never new there was so many folk singers. I have got to look a lot deeper into this music! I'm going to the CD store. Bye now.

I'm going to a JT show in Saratoga Springs next week. Can't wait. I've never seen him in concert.

My brother is a huge fan of ol' Sweet Baby James, and saw him in concert very recently (I think last week at Tanglewood). His only comment to our mother when mentioning it was "how many OLD people were in the audience" - my brother hasn't looked in the mirror lately, I guess. His own longish hair and bandit mustache are gray (hee hee).
