Thanks for clarifying, Johnfowles! The Flaming Lips (space) rock!! I call their kind of music, "Future Folk", because Wayne Coyne is undeniably obsessed with all things futuristic and their music, at its core, is structurally similar to folk music. If you strip away all the effects and moog synths and such, you've got great little folk songs. But anyway, I digress, this is a Gord site! Rainbow Trout rocks!!!

I get this Columbia House thing monthly, and ya know in the boxed set section today there is this Flaming Lips set (4CDs). It says they are good one at a time better if played 2 or 3 at a time and best when all 4 are played simutaneously, very odd.

I agree with you Big Blue! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Rainbow Trout is a simple and wonderful song. We have a few guys on here that say they skip it when they play their copy of Cold On The Shoulder! I think it would be a great sing-a-long song for children in Kindergarten because it does have an air of "cuteness" and "storybook" about it. On one of my homemade tapes I have it right before,"If Children Had Wings". It's actually tape #1 and if you want to read all the tapes I've recorded,go to "Borderstone Tapes (Tape 1)" thread. "She was all dressed up like a Rainbow Trout, swimmin' upstream in the world." http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Well I think some really good sounds of screaming and water crashing would make a great intro to the Wreck of the Fitzg. Just kidding.
Every time I hear the sound of a Loon, I cant remember which song follows...i.e Whispers of the North or Canary Yellow Canoe. SO oft times I have the volume up too high and when gord shouts "IN MY CANARY YELLOW CANOE" i ALMOST GET IN A CAR WRECK TRYING TO TURN THE VOLUME DOWN thinking its the whisper song. They should have a warning on that some dont ya think? |
one of them (forgot which one) has a longer "intro". that's the way to tell them apart, but i've fallen into the same trap as you a few times

Big Blue: Is this an example of a Middle Eight?
Rain, rain all day long You've made it pay, you can do no wrong tonight (From 'The List') It's about in the middle and it sounds different from the rest of the song. |

All I'm After: I think it could've done without the "I think I've got it maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade" part.
Ring Them Bells and Bells Of The Evening would've sounded cool with the adding of a deep gong of church bells in them. (They're good songs, but when I hear the word "bells" in the title, I always expect to hear bells throughout the song, like Hell's Bells by ACDC.  |
Ring Them Bells, is a Dylan song. Im sure you knew that Fading Away... But Gord did a good job with it, on "Waiting For You"...Jesse. :)

I knew Ring Them Bells wasn't orignially written by Gord, but I didn't know Dylan wrote it. :)
|
Yes he did write that one Fading Away. You learn something new every day...Jesse. :)
