Hey Paul,"Summer Side..." did reach #98 on the Billboard Hot 100,so I guees you could say it was a very "minor" hit.
The folks at radio(then, like now) like to play god with people's career's. Radio giveth & then radio taketh away. If you'd like to see what it may have been like in America if GL were a "superstar"...check out my topic,"If Lightfoot Were Bigger Than Elvis". |
Stuck in my mind…. II…. Tracks change, after playin’ a few more this evening, Never Too Close, Bells of the Evening, Rainbow Trout and Long Way Back Home are now in the weekend song shuffle. Don’t quite know what’s dropped out of that mind-juke yet.
|
I don't know why, because I haven't played it in a long while..but "Unsettled Ways" is playing today!
Really not one of the one's I play a lot,I like the song though. ...but very strange! |
For the past few weeks I've had a CD "stuck" in my player. It's a compilation of some recordings of various jam sessions of a few Lightheads. amongst the songs is Derek's interpretation of Inspiration Lady (which is quite beautiful) and that's the song I've been humming the past couple of days.

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
For the first time (in a long time) one of Gordon's songs has returned to play in my head all day. "Saturday Clothes" is on up there as I type!
I had meant in different times this past year to talk about other songs that played but I either forgot to or have been too busy with my (thankfully)changing life. ;) |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Good song to be in your head, Walter. Happy to hear your life is changing. Wishing you the best of life. :)

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
My head is full of Magnificent Outpouring and Don't Beat Me Down.
I like both songs very much but I get tired of hearing tunes in my head that won't go away...lol. Makes me feel like I am losing my mind. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Magnificent Outpouring, great guitar part by Red Shea at the very beginning. Terrific song, Gord's voice is incredible on that album "Did She Mention My Name." Probably the album that I've listened to the most.
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Whisper My Name from Soundstage seems to be floating around in there right now. But, Shellfish was the song for a while. That tune really has a lot of merit. There is regret and then forgiveness of that regret. At the end of my life, I don't want to be "outsmarted by the things you've left undone". I want everyone to know how I feel right now, just in case something happens. Its really a philosophical lyric about getting right with loved ones. One of my favorites.

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
My flavorites of the month are The Way I Feel and Walls :)
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Did She Mention My Name is a great album. I love the whole U.A. collection but that album does have a lot of good tracks on it.
I love The Way I Feel...such a great song lyrically and musically both. I am finding that Go-Go Round and May I both have an infectious melody that won't leave my head after I have listened to them. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Late this afternoon while feeding the horses, Carefree Highway was in my mind (hope the horses didn't mind the awful singing). Anyways I got done the chores and came it. I just got sat down to take my shoes off and low and behold guess what came on?? Yeah, Carefree Highway!! I thought Holy cow, isn't that something.
Another one that bounces around in there quite often is The Watchman's Gone and Brave Mountaineers. Brave Mountaineers reminds me so much of when I was a kid on our farm during the grain harvest in Ontario.... "And I need to be there". I could sit and listen to that song all day. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
way kewl Brannah :)

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Me, I've had Whispers of the North, Seven Island Suite, Summertime Dream, and Spanish Moss running through my mind a lot lately.
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Well finally the song in my head matched the topic. "Fading Away" today (with the line "I can go to the movies kind of repeating).
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Well, yesterday it was Home From The Forest. I have grown to love that song so much but it's so hard for me to listen to...reminds me of someone.
Today I have had I'll Be Alright playing in my head. I hummed it all the way through Walmart...lol. Whispers of the North is such a beautiful song. I keep visiting the "What should I buy Next" thread so that I can listen to it again. Guess I had better buy Salute soon...lol. |

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Thanks Jesse Joe. I listened to all those samples. I still haven't heard most of his songs. The first concert I saw, he said he was going to sing all his songs that night. All 190 of them. I guess he was just saying that. Or what if he did sing them all and I just left too early?! That would be..., I don't know what that would be, I can't even ... I can't stand it. HELP!!!!
.................................................. .......................................... No, really I know he meant it and I'm still there. .................................................. ............................................. When I first posted the above-above comment - I thought maybe someone would know I love him. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
I have a few that always run through my head also..
Did She Mention My Name Too Late For Praying I'm Not supposed to Care....(Wish you good spaces verse...) Yarmouth Castle Rainy Day people If You Could Read My Mind... And Carefree Highway... I'm hearing it constantly... (Downloaded a mide file and use it as my ringtone on my cellphone As I finish this a couple more will probably pop up ... saying what about me... No matter what Gord song is playing in your head, It's all good Kevin |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Sorry Guys had a typo... Downloaded a midi file not a mide..

I had been thinking about Carefree Highway quite a bit lately too, also River of Light, and Sometimes I Wish.

Tom has videos of all of those coming up soon. I think maybe River of Light is already posted - could be wrong. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Thanks Jesse Joe,
I liked all those samples from Salute. I am getting it ordered soon as well as Shadows. I want to be able to sing along at the concert...lol Thank You Brink, I loved that video and I like the "twist" also...didn't quite expect that...lol. Are you involved with making the vistories? The ones that I have seen are so good...really great visuals to go with the music. I admire the talented people that are putting these together...really nice work! Home From The Forest is so beautiful. It's a song that haunts me but in a good way. |

I am not involved with making the vistories, I provide a song once in a great while, but that is all Tom and his team. I love watching them. Home is a fantastic song for sure. |

Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Hmmm....I'm thinkin' "Dreamland" about.....right now eh? Especially the part about seeing "life through the gutter".
Dreamland (Endless Wire) 2:53 You come to me in times of need When you can't find anyone You seem to be much better off now There's a rainbow number one We could see life through the gutter then Till it caused my heart to break There was too much toil in dreamland And too much love to take Sometimes I remember when We were all dressed up in style I don't recall the gist of it all But you drove the young men wild You could wrap me around your finger Till it caused my heart to break There was too much toil in dreamland And too much love to take So if you need me near you Y' can do it if you choose There was too much toil in dreamland And too much love to lose Instrumental You make me do what you want me to do Then you run the rules on me You seem to be the wiser now Could it be you've been deceived Anytime you felt like tryin' You would cause my heart to break There was too much toil in dreamland And too much love to take So if you need me near you now You can do it if you choose There was too much toil in dreamland And too much love to lose |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Great videos! :) Luv 'em.
Todays selection from the mind of the "B" is....."Slide It On Over". ;) |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Which one is that, "B"?
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Patti "B" must have meant "Slide On Over" from the album "Cold On The Shoulder" 1975. Correct me if Im wrong Borderstone.
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Yes,Jess & Patti....I meant "Slide On Over". ;) I think one of the lines he sings in the song sounded like he said "it" before "on over".
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
I sohwee, I had not heard that song for a long time and didn't remember that title at all.
|
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Ooooooooh,Patti!! I'm telling on you to Gordon! A Lightfoot fan forgetting a song?! Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! No,Corfid site for a week, for you! LOL!
Todays song,"A Song For A Winter's Night". (Hopefully Patti hasn't forgotten it!) ;) |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
Go ahead, tattletail! He won't care anyway. :p I thought you might be talking about some country/western song since you threw in that "It" Now I have to bombard you. Remind Jesse Joe that I''m ok.
NO! I haven't forgotten A Song For A Winter's Night! ;) |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
I have had " I'll Be Alright " stuck in my head for two days....lol
I think it's becasue I like the guitar playing in it so much. |
Re: (It's Not) "Fading Away"!
For me today it's "Face Of A Thousand People." Great early Gordon Lightfoot song rare, probably found only on bootlegs... Another one is Diamond Joe which he did not write but does a marvel with it. There's something about those song titles that end with the word "Joe" that appeal to me. :)
