Hey guys,

Before we get too sidetracked here it should be noted that this Gordon Lightfoot's daughter sharing with us her version of her Dad's very first really big song, and big it still remains from back in those very early days when he used to sing it in the coffee houses and pubs in downtown Toronto.

"Early Morning Rain" was recorded by Elvis, Bob Dylan, Ian and Sylvia and a host of others.

I've gone back and listened to this several times and it really is a very heartfelt rendition. She has her own individual style of course and she puts all she has into it.

It's significant that she chose EMR as her first big one in the fact it was her Dad's as well. Good call.

Bet her Dad is real proud to see this.

I remember when my son began playing Lightfoot tunes on the guitar and how good that made me feel.

Time now to go East of Midnight.

That is stunning! Way to go Meredith..what a beautiful voice..great dynamic range and that is just a true stereo recording...not even a separate vocal mic. Wow she is an awesome singer..!

You bring a whole new meaning to the term "Inspiration Lady" and here's hoping that you consider recording and releasing some duets with your father. Best wishes for continued success.

If Gord gave the guitar to Miles, he may have had a good reason. Does anyone know if he is a songwriter?

A left-handed guitar might be better for Meredith. I liked how she sounded on the dulcimer. I had one when I was around her age.

Her voice is nice and strong.

Playing the guitar finger style and about twice as slow as Dad does on the 12-string is different.

The guitar playing is weak, but she'll get better. Finger style technique takes time to develop. Anybody know how long she's been playing?

I think it's really good. There's something really right about seeing Gord's child sing this song. Thumbs up, Meredith.

I think it seems she could be in a mirror, but the fridge handle seems the way most people would have it and that would make the picture right. I just find it really surprising that she would be opposite of Gordon. I would think she likely learned on one of his older guitars.

i have faith that with dad's and mom's help that she is figuring things out these days but there really is no rush or financial pressure, just keep healthy kid:)

keep the tunes coming...she is taking her mom's last name now? (maybe just as a stage name) ....no more funny Dani videos?

Her guitar playing has improved much in the last year. I find it hard to understand the words in most of her songs, but it is not that she has bad punctuation, but because she is not singing into a microphone directly. I think she should set up a couple mikes with a mike mixer and run them into the computer she is singing into. It would be a lot nicer.

Though Tracy Chapman's a folk singer, the song had more for a blues or soul sound to it as she recorded on an electric guitar.

Her father is Gordon Lightfoot- an iconic singer songwriter - she is trying to be a musician as well.. People who meet her can have expectations and can be quite judgemental knowing that a person is a child of such a talent. It can create a lot of pressure on a young person - pressure to be as good or better..and she is her own person.
Her father is comfortable with her choice to call herself Moon as well..
