Anybody remember Kenny Rankin ? He was/is quite a vocal gymnast. Here's his take on Pussywillows, Cattails. The accompanying photos are not very good, and I would suggest minimizing your screen and just listen to the music.

Re: Miscellaneous covers and artists

This one is considered a classic. Nana Mouskouri, who recently retired (I believe she is in her 60s) is the biggest selling female artist worldwide ever, with fans all over the world, even though she is not well known in the US.

While the melody is Song For A Winter's Night, the translation does not attempt to match the original lyrics (the French title means "at the garden gate". Nana also recorded the song in English (she was fluent in at least a half dozen languages; her native tongue is Greek), and recorded a French version of Sundown. Although her name may be new to most of us, she is mentioned in the official Lightfoot bio.

I have several old albums of hers from my parents collection. We listened to her a lot when i was a young kid and due to the huge Greek population in TOronto she was always a big thing here and right up to a couple of years ago during her farewell tour. she's turning 75later this year.. fabulous voice and classy lady.

jj,

That's not funny. Let's not confuse the masses. Islands in the Stream is a Kenny ROGERS tune.

That's ok. We all have something in our closets. It would have been a treat to hear a Lightfoot tune covered by them.

neat idea, rm...and/or vice versa...they certainly also composed hundreds of tunes of which a few dozen i'd consider wonderfully melodic

i could hear Robin Gibb crooning (ok, warbling) a I'm Not Supposed to Care quite masterfully...with harmonies only creeping in for the "And if you need someone..." segment

ok, enough of a tangent...back to Kenny G or whoever you were talking about before the diversion, rm

I did a search, and was sent immediately to this thread (which is akin to Jomo being thrown in a bath tub filled with water). I could not find this rendition of 'Steel Rail Blues' by Sam Roberts :

Re: Miscellaneous covers and artists

good of you to post it here, rm, cos i dont think the one Pam posted made it here from small talk (she called it 'when in doubt look to the Gord')

don't know if Roberts is household name in the States but one hasn't heard of him, this is a pretty concise low down intro plus a groovin acoustic track...enjoy

Kenny is still around and performing Ron. He still sounds the same. Still
sings beautifully.
