Just thought I would add some more info to the discussion on Gord's drinking. In LA when he had just released Salute, he announced he had stopped drinking, and had in fact walked into an AA meeting at the hotel in Universal City(hence the song "I Got a lot more living to do" AKA "Salute"). He told the audience that his doctor and his friends basically told him, you quit drinking or you're going to die. I guess that was all if took. That's it...

Listen mister I won't waster your time
I hope all the mistakes you made were alot like mine....
Maybe we've got more living to do with a lot less pain
Here let's drink to you...
These are the words I knew would break the ice
I held my hand out and he shook it twice
It seemed to me like I'd been here before
Deja vu, a familiar voice
And the salute of my choice..." GL

Beverley is also credited with bringing Gord the Newsweek article about the Edmund Fitzgerald, which appeared about 2 weeks after the wreck. The part about the rector of the Detroit church ringing the bell 29 times was what inspired gord to write the song; the rest is history.

In checking out the profile for member #114 (photographer Dan Risoti) for a reply to "newbie" Kerstin's posting I found this old topic from 2000 in which Dan posted for what looks like the very first time in a topic full of info on Gord and his family. See also the plaintive June 2 posting by our charming moderator and domestic goddess person who just so happens to be member #115 and had only just registered (on May 11th 2000) so this might just be her first of her nearly 3000 postings.

My understanding is that Gordon's doctor told him that he would die if he didn't stop imbibing just as Deb said. Accordingly, Gordon gave his doctor his word and handshake and did not drink again.

When Gord introduces "Baby Step Back", he sometimes mentions the story about playing golf with his "ex brother-in-law". I wonder if that is Beverly's ex-husband??

I remember Gord didn't play "Baby Step Back" in concert for several years after Shadows came out. When he did play it for the first time I heard, he mentioned something about that he wasn't able to play the song for legal purposes for some reason. Anyone else remember this?

Also, is Beverly the only sibling Gord has?

Yes, she's his only sibling.

It could be Bev's ex..or it could have been, at that time, his current lady loves' brother if she had one..he's never said.

Bev's ex hubby's niece (on his side of the family) cuts my hair..lol
