Karen, sorry t/b slow to post re: Divorce & GL in the 80s. I assure you it was no different last year (hence my "name"). I practically wore out Disc 4 with all those Shadows and Rarity cuts that seemed SO on the mark, yet comforting, as you said. I was curious though, as to which you used during that time. Broken Dreams is still #1 on my chart with Romance, Someone To Believe In, In My Fashion, Heaven Don't Deserve Me, the start of Now And Then and yes, Sundown.

Wish I had Heaven Help The Devil on CD though! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Now - this is a slow reply. Sorry, out of town for a while to my home state of Minnesota - so of course Edmund is a favorite. Really hit home after getting stranded in SW Minn. in a horrible blizzard. I was driving when I shouln't have.

You know, I can't just pick a couple songs that helped me with the various rough times in my life. Divorce brings back Circle is Small, it seemed like I was wrapped with a Ribbon of Darkness, I so wanted someone who could Read my Mind and then maybe I could be the girl in Sundown - although cheating around has not been my style.

The thing that amazes me about the music is that after listening for 30 years, living in three different states, college student/married/divorced, and of course the passage of time is that in each of many different situation another song has the words that say I'm not alone.

I can't believe this topic wasn't longer!

I can honestly say my views of music and people are different since i have the music of Gordon Lightfoot in my life. I discovered an artist can have a plethora of recordings with no hits and still make good music.

I discovered a great bunch of peope on here who love the music & artist as much as me and can't imagine liking any other artist more. (In my case "male" artist.

The biggest problem I've had id\s like others here have said. I can't get anyone to understand why I prfer this over louder music or more up to date fare. All i can say is,"His style matches who I am inside and reaches me." "Just like what you listen to reches you."

After that,if the still persist,I go on my way.
Thank you Gordon and everyone here,I wouldn't trade it for anything. ;)

Gord is so special to me, there is no one else I would travel so far to see, unless Elvis was still around!

My best memory of Gord is when him and I went fishing on ole buck creek. He ended up catching three rainbow trout, and damn they were big! I for one, was in complete awe of how Gord just seemed at ease out in nature and how he was one with the fish.

Gord, if you're still out there, give me a call. We need to go have a shit load of beer again. Last time you were drunk, you really pissed off a lot of people, but I still appreciate your aggressive-ness...but on the guitar only.

Remember that time I bailed you out of jail for stealing? You stinking idiot. I can't believe I actually saved your ass. And you, you cheap ass, only got me a can of Skoal in return. Why I oughta....

Anyways, tell your family I said hi. BTW, is your daughter still single?

I would place money on Gord playing Florida next year
When he does I know of at least two chat room etc friends from the "non-orange-free" state
(namely Erica "erkie" Deutsch and Lori Uffner).. you have a nucleus for a gathering there
they will be at such a concert plus our moderator/Char...lady person will no doubt find that an excuse to visit her sister in "not Saratoga" not to mention sundry fans who will no doubt visit from Georgia and/or Alabama

There once was a man greater than all who had come before him. People say that he could down trees and level towns all with but a single glance. Wild beasts would cower at the mere mention of his name. His name was....

Some people cannot be described by words alone. In fact, when I try to describe my love of Gord to others, I am often left speechless. For me, Gord transcends both the time and space continuum. As his legend grew, nations grew weary, and his status approached ubiquity. Villagers claimed that despite his wolflike features, he never slept. Since the beginning of time, he drew his energy from the sun, becoming stronger with each successive century. His tree-trunk like arms could fire a cross bow clear across the ocean. Those who were present claimed that he would fire an arrow in one direction, and after circling the world once or twice it would return to his grasp. Mear mortals who e'en dare stare into his fire-like eyes turned instantly into wood. Those who felt or smelled his icy breath would vaporize. His chest wreaked of mucus and dead rabbit poop, yet glicened in the sun due to a demanding training regimin which included a 10 year period of him doing push-ups continously, breaking only for a total of 3 minutes, only to kill 10,000 wombats with the mere swing of his arm. While living underwater for 30 years, he developed crude gills, and adapted an uncanny ability to deliver an electic shock with his finger, much like an eel. Unlike mere mortals, he required neither oxygen, nor food. He developed an unprecedented and irregular pattern of feeding through photosynthesis. Through the years, his finger nails became that like concrete. In fact when he did cut his nails, highways throughout the country were developed from his robust nail fixings.

Gord, you are truly a legend, and every time I see a full moon, your sillouhette shines through the darkness and I hear you howling my name ... Spanish Moss! Through this, I realize that my glass is almost empty.....

Yours until the next railroad trilogy, SM

oh yeah Sir John - I'll be there come hell or high water! I planned on the 2003 show in Sarasota but alas, 'twas not to be.....
When next you speak to GL (3 weeks or so...) please enquire about a spring visit to the left coast of The Sunshine State - it was the Van Wezel Theatre in beautiful downtown Sarasota where he was scheduled to perform.

I'll need something to look forward to after Orillia's December 3rd concert.....

Gord's music inspired me to pick up the guitar again after a badly broken arm forced me into a 3-year hiatus from ages 11-14. A self-imposed hiatus of neglect from ages 37-42 was ended more recently again by my desire to play Gord's songs. As a civilized lover of the wilderness, his music is the soundtrack I carry in my head whenever I'm in the backcountry, as vital to my life as the words of John Muir and Gary Snyder.

No ordinary man,

Please do not use our "oh so blessed words" to Gord. According to Gord 3:16z, "thou shalt not copyright thou words eenst from Spanish (heavenly) moss, dost thou have for thou.... Thy wingeth breath on an autumn night is not but similar to thy captured phrases".

Wilst thou pleaseth reply?
