I will take this topic to mean it doesn't necessarily matter if he normally doesn't play them live--that this is a complete "wish list!" Here are my current five (in no particular order):
I'll Tag Along East of Midnight (the "light arrangement") Miguel Restless Ballad of the Yarmouth Castle Derek [This message has been edited by telekidd (edited August 03, 2002).] |

I missed this one a while back, but it's such a great topic, I want to take a stab at it. In my response, I will assume that Gord is playing alone, without the band, and that the setting is a small coffee house in a seaside town in Nova Scotia, with an audience of about 10 (Lightfoot fans all). I am going to omit any song I've heard in concert (including Beautiful, Christian Island and SFAWN, each of which otherwise would be on my list), because I'm picturing this as an intimate setting and time to hear some rarities. In this setting, the mood is set by the smell of the coffee, the sound of the waves and the crackle of the fireplace.

What a great topic!!! It's the whole reason I found this web site. I actually wanted to try to organize a private concert like this for my wife and two kids when we go on vcacation. We are staying in a cabin on Whitefish Bay and (Gord if your reading this and want to surprise us) We will be in cabin#1 at Birchwood lodge in Paradise, Michigan from June 29-July5, 2003.
Our 5 songs are these: 1) Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald 2) Steel Rail Blues 3) If You Could Read My Mind 4) The House You Live In 5) Carefree Highway Please,Please come to our cabin Gord. I can grill you one hell of a good New York Strip steak and my wife makes AWESOME potato salad! |

I have a feeling that Gord won't be coming so we will have plenty of food. We are going to take a portable CD player with plenty of Gordon Lightfoot CD's. I promise that if a stranger shows up at our door, and is willing to carry fire wood for food and music- we will cheerfully take you in, Feed you and listen to Gord!!!!!!

You know Lavender this 5 songs would be hard to limit. when I go back and review any of Gord's music it is hard not to change my list... And I thought my topic on the memory first was hard, ha! This is like the indecisive child in me that keeps rearranging all of the songs. Today feels like a day of protest, spring is not coming quickly enough, so let's protest.
What are Gord's greatest protest songs? Gwen |

This one ain,t as tough as "list your favorite song",but it gives you a little playing space. They,d go about like this:
1)Minstrel of the Dawn 2)Knotty Pine 3)Ghosts of Cape Horn 4)Affair on 8th Avenue 5)All the Lovely Ladies Now,if it were Gordy AND the Lightfoot Band, the list would read different. This list is just to hear Gord and his guitar.jack beanstalk |
