I like "Too Many Clues" a lot...definitely an eerie-sounding track. Not quite sure what Gordon's talking about with most of it, though!

I also really love "I'd Do It Again," a great toe-tapper.

By the way,I think someone should bring it up,late summer into fall 2006 is the 30th anniversary of the album,Gordon's last great "commercial" success.

Sept. 19th through the 25th is when "Wreck" hit the top 40 in '76 and November 10th & 17th is when it peaked at #2.

As far as I'm concerned though,all of his LPs are a success one way or another. ;)

My favorite on this release is "I'm Not Suppose To Care". The guitar and melody are just mesmerising. It really brings out the emotion in you.

I've purchased many, many others in two of the formats, but this is the only one that I had to have every time my listening technology changed. Thankfully, I could burn it to my computer to put it on my MP3 player. :)

For overall consistency of a list of songs (to my personal taste, that is) Summertime Dream is definitely in my top tier of GL albums.

"Protocol" is a fine song, but again, that's just my own taste. My father was a soldier in WWII, and I have always loved the skies and the sea. Something about it just clicks with me.

By the way, mstove, you neglected to mention 8-track in your song formats. :D

Yes, but it's a subtle knack. Oh, the words and message can be quite poignant, as Black Day In July clearly shows. But Gord isn't in your face and up on the soapbox as, for example, Bruce Cockburn is. And that's nothing against Bruce. He's a great talent and I have a few of his albums. But Gord chooses his spots well. It kind of reminds me of the person who doesn't often raise their voice or cause a stir. On the rare occasions they do, it has such impact, you pay attention.

I get a bit irritated just thinking of that! Hadn't thought about that "feature" of 8-tracks in years. A technology that deserved it's demise.

Im a bit like you mstove, Gordon Lightfoot is the only artist, that I I have 4 different recordings formats. I have many of his LP's also in 8 Track, cassette, and CD's. I go to the music store and if I see a product of him I dont have , even if I have already all the songs, 3 or 4 times, I buy it anyway,in whatever format. But today it's mostly in CD's, I think I have them all...Jesse. :)
