but how did you know to look for Gordon a Kirsch. i.e. where did you find the gordon name to start with??
I found many items on our "man" in that group including an excellent GL thread on the fitz starting at:- http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...fd9b56669b8966
but you must have checked every posting the group's search unearthed to discover the facts about Maryland etc??
Meanwhile I have had a linited reply from Kara thanking me for some of the info I sent and repeating that Maheen had used fowl language and apologising to me but the reply was far short of what I expected to receive since it studiously avoided commemnt on my rebuffs now and last September to her charges of re-using subject titles. So I now have to compose yet another email and will keep on until she profusely apologises for upsetting both me and Maheen

If it's zero degrees outside today and it's going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be

I found "Gordon" in a posting by Kara on her alumni bulletin board announcing the change. Then googled under the "Gordon Kirsch" and "Gordon A. Kirsch" postings that came up.

Hey John,
Maheen is lucky that he can't see this beauty " Queen "

I was able to see her photo on yahoo, and may I say, EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

OK Maheen and I know who this mysterious person is.
She has upset me mightily twice buy sending me insane allegations that I have filched the subject heading from her Yahoo group messages when replying to somebobdy else-plainly absurd. yesterday Maheen got a similar attack which upset him.
I have twice spent much time trying to answer this person's stupid Lightfoot questions yet she has never had the common decency of thanking me me but yesterday on the gordonlightfoot Yahoo group she had the gall to ask who I was. I happened to comment to Maheen in an MSN Messenger chat seesion at the time she was firing off her vitriolic ramblings and casually said she was an ungrateful bitch (patently true) and Maheen liked the sound of that and included it in his next Yahoo posting, wherupon he was accused of using fowl language
note fowl not fowles
I have now sent her a lengthy screed apprising her the facts of internet topics/threads and inviting her to apologise profusely to Maheen and myself on both the
Yahoo group and here but so far no word from her I will give her a few more hours then proceed to publicly pillory her by posting the contents of my email here and on the two Yahhoo groups that she has sullied with her rubbish.
So who is this woman* (see below)?
According to her Yahoo profile
Real Name: Kara
Location: St.Paul MN (I know that not all Minnesotans are stoopid and rude)
Age: 41 uh oh Menopause at work no doubt!!
Marital Status: Single (no surprise there!!)
Gender: Female* but see below
Occupation: un-employed
*and get this amongst her listed hobbies
"I continue with my M-F gender change transition!" thus the word I used above should be(wo)menopause
there is most surprisingly a photograph of this strange creature

sorry I cannot get "her" yahoo pic to display here nor will notlong.com accept the actual
Yahoo address so you will have to see it in situ on its profile page at:- http://profiles.yahoo.com/kmsc22001
Unfortunately of course Maheen is unable to feast his eyes on this delectable image

No offense John, but why are men so misinformed about the "midlife change". It happens in the 50s not the 40s!!! My otherwise intelligent boyfriend made the same mistake, and his father is a doctor...

LSH 02-25-2005 06:42 PM

And further to Bonnie's comment, there is also a medical phenomenon known as "male menopause". Which explains a lot.

I think this is a matter of semantics. Menopause refers to the cessation of periods, which usually - but not always - occurs around the early 50s. But what most people refer to when commenting on menopause as John did is the perimenopause. Early signals of menopause can begin in your late 30s; my hot flashes began in my mid-forties (I'm now 53 and now past most of it, hurrah!). And 'surgical' menopause - due to hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries - can occur at any age given the right indications for removal (cancer, for example.) Menopause is a process, sort of adolescence in reverse, hormonally speaking. Bone loss begins in the mid 30s - peak bone building time is in your teens, which is why I'm forever giving my 15 year old milk. Mood swings may or may not be present, often due to disrupted sleep from the aforementioned hot flashes and various aches and pains. Skin begins to lose elasticity (more sagging and dryness), weight is harder to lose and easier to gain, etc. But as with adolescence, menopause is different for every woman, though your experience may reflect that of your mother's.
In any event, getting to the other side of it is a relief.

Luckily most studies report this generally affects men in their 80s or early 90s who have had prolonged exposure to

It's not miscalling the decade that bothers me. It's the insinuation that menopause "explains everything" whenever a man has a problem with any woman over 40.

I'll have you know I was crazy long before I hit 40, and menopause doesn't have a damn thing to do with it. If anything, pre-menopause has calmed me down.

Yep - andropause can account for a lot of male behaviour and it's not just men over 80!
What they have to "pause" over is beyond me but they'll soak it for all it's worth!

I like Rosie. She stands for children's rights and speaks her mind on subjects that matter.
