I would say anyone of those song list's would make a great live album. At first I thought this would be easy, but after I started it got hard to narrow down my list. After much thought this is what I came up with.
1. Cold On The Shoulder
2. A Painter Passing Through
3. Forgive Me Lord
4. Stone Cold Sober
5. Seven Island Suite
6. Canadian Railroad Trilogy
7. Someone To Believe In
8. The Gypsy
9. Hangdog Hotel Room
10.Minstrel Of The Dawn
11.10 Degrees And Getting Colder
12.Hi'way Songs
13.Ballad Of Yarmouth Castle
14.Affair On 8th Avenue
15.Summertime Dream
16.Ghosts Of Cape Horn
17.Heaven Don't Deserve Me
18.Waiting For You
19.Magnificent Outpouring
20.Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

I also had to have a couple of encores
1. Long Thin Dawn
2. Carefree Highway

I tell you if I had the time I would've thought up a double album. There are still so many songs I would love to hear live, but this is the few I like most. I love to hear your opinions, thanks.

I know this sounds a little far fetched but I wonder how hard it would be to sell the A&E channel on producing this as a live show? The reason I asked, is this is how ablums and shows get started. Someone somes up with a great idea and we build from there. Input anyone?

Strong set Paul.
I may be wrong, but I'm not sure he likes to perform to many of his old UA songs.

I'm all for more Gord exposure on TV, Rob.
I say 'more' there hasn't been any where I am.

You raised an interesting flag I've never noticed before about the old UA recordings. I wonder why that is? Do you have a feel for that. Could be an interesting topic. At least it is for me.

I have to laugh,Rob!
It was a typing error,it should read 'too many' not 'to many',which means something different.
It's just a thought.Considering the amount of songs he made in that period. Not many appear on recent concert sets.
I've read in interviews,he considers a lot of those songs are dated,or at least he likes to modernise them.
I personally think all his songs are great, old and new.

I'm with you. My son is sixteen and hearing them, the songs, for the first time, I have asked him that very question. In his youthfiul wisdom, he answered that, "A good song is timeless." (Sometimes he really surprises me.) He thinks that all Gord's music is great and he is amazed that some of the songs I sing are over thirty years old. His opinion is they sound like they were written yesterday.

..."A good song is timeless"...that's a bright young man you have on your hands there, Rob. He sums it up very nicely!

So you want a dream album line-up from me....well I'll have to grab all my "Gord Favorites" cassettes after work and write 'em all down. (This will probably have to be a double album, at least!) So maybe tomorrow I'll have it together. Basically I taped all my favorites on several cassettes so that it's quite a spiritual experience on a trip or wherever, playing all of them at once. Almost too much to bear, depending on my moods at the time! So, stay tuned.....

Oh Boy!! Now I've gone and done it. I e-mailed the producers of A&E's Live In Concert series to visit this site and check it out as a possible starting place for a live concert for Gord. Keep you posted on the results.

OK, Frank V, here goes.....My "Dream CD":

1) Softly
2) Does your Mother Know
3) Pussywillows, Cattails
4) Minstrel of the Dawn
5) IYCRMM
6) Your Love's Return
7) Can't Depend on Love
8) Looking at the Rain
9) Beautiful
10)I'm Not Supposed to Care
11)Is There Anyone Home
12)Rainy Day People
13)All the Lovely Ladies
14)Now and Then
15)Whisper My Name
16)If You Need Me
17)Shadows
18)Daylight Katy
19)Tattoo
20)Anything for Love

As you can see, they are probably considered "chick songs", all romantic and stuff, or dealing with relationships, moody, sad, regretful. Story of my life! Also mostly older stuff, since I like his voice in a lower pitch.
Hey, when I dragged out all my old LP's, I found one I forgot about. See if any of you know about this one:

"Yellow Bird"
1979
Koala Record Co.
International Record Distributing Assoc.
Hendersonville, TN
Songs:
Auctioneer
Turn, Turn, Turn
Don't think Twice, It's Alright
The Way I Feel
Yellow Bird
Song of the Groundhog
Ribbon of Darkness
Fools Rush In
Long River
Where Have All the Flowers Gone

Whew! I haven't played the LP since I got it, but I remember it being somewhat bizarre, poorly recorded. Anybody else have it?

Well, gotta go. Can't wait to see replies!!

Otterjudy: Yellow Bird is one of two bootlegs from Koala. The other, Get Together, was also released in 1979. Both albums contain several tracks which are NOT Gordon Lightfoot. When you listen again, it will be obvious to you. You are very (very!) lucky to have that LP. It goes for about $200 on Ebay!

On your album, the GL songs are:The Auctioneer, Turn, Turn, Turn, The Way I Feel, Song of the Groundhog, Ribbon of Darkness, and Long River. Those songs, and the ones on Get Together are all from a live performance at a Detroit bar called La Cave in June of 1964.

What a man you are Rob!
That was one of the reasons I started this topic.

Well Theotterjudy that is a 'Love' classic.

The chances of that set being released ......

The same chances as taxes being abolished!
{Lets have both}

Thanks for the interesting info, VLMagee - I appreciate it! Guess I'll hold on to it since it appears to be rare. You're right, I remember thinking "this doesn't even sound like Gord" when I heard it. They don't credit anybody else on the LP, so I wonder who it was? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif
Florian: I am addicted to this site - it's the only one I have stayed with. Great job!
Now I know I'm not the only Gord fan after all these years, hiding in my room, playing Gord songs. Let's hear it for us fans!
