I can only suggest Dear char that you try again because for me at least Mende's link correctly surprise surprise opens the page:-
http://www.sendspace.com/file/jdal5f
on which I read reassuringly
This is the download page for:

Name: gl-yoursong.mp3
Size: 2MB
The download link is located below.
scrolling down seemed the obvious thing to do where I was then delighted to read
that link which for me clearly said
Download Link: gl-yoursong.mp3
plus this in a red box
The download link has been updated (error: #10).
You may now download the file

and it is in fact a hyperlink to:-
http://fs05n4.sendspace.com/dl/ffae5...l-yoursong.mp3
so right clicking on it and then "save target as" works for me and I have now redownloaded the requisite file and it took aboot 20 minutes total on the stoopidly lethargic dial-up:-
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/your_song.jpg
gl-yoursong.mp3 2.24 MB

I also have dial-up, and it worked fine. I just clicked on joveski's updated link....scrolled down to a pulsating red arrow pointing to the song....clicked on the link....LEFT clicked on "save".....picked a destination for the file....and began waiting (due to dial-up).

P.S. there was no error message associated with the link.

[/QUOTE]Not so Roger the Dodger
it works perfectly for me
I am assuming by "John's link" that you were referring to the same link as Joveski's
i.e:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/jdal5f
but in fact both that link and the longer one
I showed viz:-
http://fs05n4.sendspace.com/dl/ffae5...l-yoursong.mp3
most handily open the desired download page as evidenced by the following screenshots:-
http://johncfowles.fileave.com/image...load_page1.jpg
the top of the page showing the URL and nary a sign of a "404" error anywhere
http://johncfowles.fileave.com/image...load_page2.jpg
where one should then scroll down to as directed
(updated??)no I do not know what that means either
http://johncfowles.fileave.com/image...load_page3.jpg
what appears if you are so bold as to click that link
http://johncfowles.fileave.com/image...load_page4.jpg
the painfully lethargic dial up download just starting
somewhat reminiscent of the downloading screenshot I previously displayed methinks
So what's your problem?
I can only suggest that you and anybody else still having a problem try again
Just trying to help you understand

This is what I meant by "updated". When I click on this link, there is no error message. When I click on your longer link, there IS an error message. Everytime. Why this is, I do not know.

Interesting! It IS a song that permutes perfectly to his palette. Almost as if Elton & Bernie were inspired by his style for that one. The recording's pretty low tech. Who's Skip Weshner? Also, I wonder why Gord opted to strum rather than arpeggiating (aka "finger picking") which he does very well.

Skip Weshner as a google search should tell you was a Disk Jockey in the City
Of The Angels
indeed from the above wiki link
"Skip Weshner (1927-1995) was a disc jockey on stations in New York and Los Angeles from the mid 1950's until the mid 1980's.
In particular, he hosted a popular show on KRHM-FM in Los Angeles. He is known for inviting artists such as Gordon Lightfoot
and John Denver to his show" and Wayne describes Gord's visits in four of the first seven entries on:-
http://www.lightfoot.ca/radioapp.htm
As I understand it, since Skip's death a number of recordings from his broadcasts have surfaced and a simple "weshner" search
right here on corfid reveals Gloria's posting in February 2005:-
topic: For Trade: Lightfoot 1968-70 KRHM The Skip Weshner Tapes 4CDR's
at:-
http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...c;f=1;t=003004
these have also been available from time to time as a "torrent"
"torrents" wot r they then??
Again see corfid for some details
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...=003236#000003
I believe that the original prime source of torrents was http://www.easytree.com, and although that site seems to have for most practical purposes disappeared, it has been supplanted by
dimeadozen.org for torrent listings, yet there is still a most useful "artwork" depository at:-
http://artwork.easytree.org/
which is a page entitled
"artwork.easytree.org - Yet Another Artwork Source".
There you will find an enticing "Artist Selection" tab clicking which moves on to show a drop down artists box logically prefaced by "Please select an artist:"
scrolling the resulting list about half way down you will find betwixt Dave Liebman (who he??) and Lightning Hopkins Sam
a familiar name:-
Gordon Lightfoot (9)
clicking which will open:-
a GL page showing 9 sets of artwork including 3 for the various "Skip Weshner" CDs for example
<a href="http://artwork.easytree.org/artwork/grdl/grdl_1968-1970_skip-weshner-show-los-angeles-ca_inlay-card.jpg" target="_blank">
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9035/skip640lz8.jpg</a>
(Click on that picture for a larger version of this sample CD jewel case inlay)
and better (less garish) artwork for the 1967 Montreux Festival
note that all these items are ROIO
(Recordings Of Independant Origin) as dimeadozen likes to call them in their site's disclaimer

"DIME is merely a BitTorrent tracker for audio and video recordings of independent origin (ROIO) which have not been officially released. No audio or video content is hosted here. We only provide meta information files for the ROIOs.
If you're an artist (or a legal representative of an artist or its estate) and you don't want your ROIOs shared on DIME for
free among your fans, you may opt out any time by sending e-mail to the site admin. We will then put you in our list of not
allowed artists, known as the NAB list. This will halt all sharing of your ROIOs using DIME's trackers within minutes.

BTW, the ROIOs exist, you can't make them vanish. So, why not let your fans get them for free from one another instead of
having to purchase them from commercial bootleggers on auction sites"

My thoughts exactly .And in view of Gord's recent unwelcome to us declarations that he feels it unlikely that he will ever get the motivation and time to write more songs for another album, I do wish he would consider doing a few cover versions of songs he has done in the past. Three others that immediately come to mind are "Farewell To Nova Scotia"(in circulation in two versions, the better being the one performed on BBC television in 1971 or 1972, and Ian Tyson's great "Four Strong Winds".
and the favourite of myself and Ron Jones
1968's Face Of A Thousand People
plus inumerable other rare recordings of songs such as "Partners", 2000/2001's "Nighttime" and
the rest of the 30 odd songs allegedly available in total of the pre aneurism studio demos that led to 9 being included on Harmony.
Any others people??

Re: MP3: GL singing Your Song

Anybody who has as I have for sometime hankered after at least hearing the Skip Weshner tapes (especially after Mende Joveski's Your Song teaser a while ago see
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.p...13&postcount=6
(It appears that his mp3 is no longer available on the limited time file storage website he elected to utilise)
Thos who have not yet heard the 4 CD's worth of off radio recordings will be pleased to hear that a complete set of High quality lossily compressed mp3s (sampled at the highest rate of 320KBPS) is available for download at rapidshare the links and contents of the 4 CDs are listed at:-
http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f90...fm-133639.html
Alternatively those who can manipulate a torrent or who want a perfect losslessly compressed file set will find a new entry at
http://www.dimeadozen.org
In accordance with Dime's rules those files are in "FLAC" (Free Lossless Audio Codec) format the good news is that flacs may be played in Windows Media Player after installing the free K-lite Codec pack from:-
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm
and/or burnt to an audio CD using Express Burn which will itself convert them (and can also be set to produce a "continuous" CD with the gap between tracks set to zero
When and if you avail yourself of this opportunity you will be able to hear a pair of unreleased "songs" in addition to the aforementioned "Your Song" these being
"The Seabird Song" and a brief snatch of "The Doomsday Song" ( the latter both sung by Gord and recited by him)
also featured is another unreleased song called
"Take It Or leave It".
A further alternative is to simply listen to the lower quality streaming version also now available on sugrmegs
http://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/a...hnerTapes.html
