Borderstone,
I feel as if I am in a time warp when I read your comments(a pleasant time warp, but a time warp all the same). When did the Archie's do that song, originally? But, fun memory. GSS |

Gwen Snyder: The Archies (better known in the real world as singer Ron Dante, along with studio players and vocalists,)recorded ,"Sugar-Sugar" in early 1969 and it was released in late summer on Calendar records. The song went to number 1 just after Autumn began Sept./October. In fact it stayed there for 4 weeks. Now,just so no mistake is made,I was only 1 then. I own a copy of The Billboard Book Of #1 Hits and have all the songs in it. Before that book came out I saw the old Archie cartoons re-run on San Diego's Xetv Channel 6. Never missed it. That's why I had my Mom order the LP from TV. Just for that son,but all the rest was cool too. It's been that plethora of music info. Borderstone, outta here and Alberta Bound! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

My first GL album purchased was DON QUIXOTE when it was being played on FM radio so it was within weeks of it's release. Like Jenney I've worked backward and forward since then.
Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif You sure are mining the vaults for these topics. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |

I bought a compilation of his early material called "Early Morning Rain" from a second-hand record store in Croydon called "Beanos" (Croydon is in Surrey,England!) This was in 1989. I bought it on the strength of being familiar with other interpretations of "Early Morning Rain" and "For Lovin' Me", particularly Elvis Presley's version. Afraid to say, I wasn't a fan immediately after hearing these. It took "The Mountain's and Maryann" and one or two others to really win me over!
