I was unsure which forum to post this in but decided to follow Florian 's lead as it is after all a summary that will hopefully
convince a few doubters here go have a go and try out (i.e. Test) some of the new features in this the "Test" forum.I think that I have pretty thoroughly covered the significant imporovements , but no doubt if I omitted anything important some bright spark/budding geek will set me right!

The following is basically the text of a posting that I have recently posted on the Newsgroup which I thought some there might like to read .I was careful to preface my comments as follows:-
Of course if you do not want anything to do with corfid please continue with your business and ignore this completely.
In case anybody here is unaware of the recent concerts please be advised that there are some, albeit brief, postings on corfid about two of the Colo(u)rado concerts.

In view of the problems that were occurring over at corfid,Florian has
really taken the bull by the horns and invested time and money to
move his entire site to a new more commodious and accomodating server
and for extremely good measure he has also replaced the original UBB
Ultimate Bulletin Board software and hosting arrangement with a rather
better featured alternative namely:-
vbulletin from Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd at http://www.vbulletin.com
for an official explanation see Florian's announcement at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/announcement.php?f=3
amongst the newly introduced features are:-
1 Under a thread is a listing of similar threads
2 For displaying pictures instead of the previous restriction and
necessity to only link to pictures that are already on a website
anywhere, for example on one of the free digital picture storage sites
such as http://www.imageshack.us or photobucket
one can now upload ones pictures directly to the new corfid site as
an attachment , and not only images but also text files and zip
files;in fact any of the following valid file extensions:-
bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip
But quite what you would then do with a zip file after this I have yet
to fathom out.
There are however details of uploaded images being presented as
thumbnails.
3.An especially nice associated innovation I think is that if you try
to display a large picture file (one whose width exceeds the default
limit of 640 pixels the board intervenes and shows a reduced size
large "thumbnail" of 640 pixels with an invitation to "click here" to
see the original whose "weight" (sic) in Kilobytes is shown. thus
enabling those unfortunate sufferring surfers like me trying to cope
with a lethargic dial-up connection the option of opening the large
version if the mood and time suits
4. There is now a choice of "style" the traditional "corfid" style is
white text on the blue background but there is now the option of
changing to a "default" style with black text on a plainer white page
with bluish frames.
5. Extended text formatting. in addition to the previous board's
ability by using the simplified HTML like UBB code to make text bold
and/or italic. one can now increase the size or add colouring and
even if the notion grabs you change the font and/or add underlining
or highlights or include indenting and/or text aligning left right
or center/centre.
Hey whatever turns you on.!!
To access the formatting rules click the "VBCode is ON "link under a
new thread text box this will open
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/misc.php?do=bbcode
So far everything appears to be working well.
6..Video embedding is now possible
Florian had already tamed that video feature so I experimented in
reply in order to allow easy access to some Yahoo Videos including a
trilogy built around photographs etc from last November's Delta
Chelsea "Jam" session. So those who were there might like to visit the
test forum thread starting at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=128808&postcount=1
7.There is a statistical summary which reads
threads 5679 postings 82,.433, Members 1716, active members 53.
No nobody As Far As I Know has yet figured out what the criterion and
qualifications for being an "active member" are, suffice it to say
that I am one of the many "Senior Members" still busy posting
8 Amongst the options that one can select is the ability to arrange
the display of all threads in either first message first or last
message first
9. When you mouseover the titles of the threads in each of the three
forum's listings and on the introductory "index" page at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/index.php
you will see a most convenient popup showing the first line(s) of the first posting to that thread that would be displayed (see 8. above),which could be useful for quickly refreshing ones memory or deciding whether you have already read it or indeed want to
10 a useful block at upper right on the index page tellling you your name and when you last visited corfid and summarising your Private Messages collection

Hey Sir John. I must say that the more I make use of this new format, the more I find myself liking it. I also find myself being able to login a lot faster, as well as being able to get to other areas so much sooner. Right now, the only reason I'm having any trouble at all is because I'm stiil not too good on computers.

Interesting Lorne .I do not think I clicked on your "attach" link but whatever I could soon see the full sized picture and surmised that you initially used the attachment feature to upload your picture, then having from the thumbnail ascertained the exact location of the full sized picture, you simply edited your original posting by deleting the thumbnail box and instead used that URL to display the picture full sized. Am I correct? if so well done a good one SM
