When it comes to pioneers of music, this list is essential.

The singer-songwriter genre confirms the artist writes, composes, and performs their own material. One-man or one-woman shows, if you will.

While the beginning stages usually encompassed folk-acoustic, it’s since branched out and evolved alongside the difference branches of musical genres.

Take a look at our top 30 original singer-songwriters below: http://www.musicvaultz.com/2016/09/28/top-30-original-singer-songwriters/?lf=3a8e8350429a5f372c4cb17c50c54506

Some interesting inclusions, Elton John is a great tunesmith, not so sure he is a wordsmith.

Elton writes the music..Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics.
Linda Rondstadt covered most of her tunes...as usual with any list there's some folks who think it should have some artists that should be added/replace some on the list... lol..

Very pleased that Gordon is on this list (as well as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carly Simon, etc.). I am surprised that Billy Joel isn't on it.

Yeah lots of names left off there, but 30 really isn't enough. Glad to see Gordie on there though.

Trying to work out just how many songs Art Garfunkel wrote, cannot get past 0.

Art had 2 number ones over here, I Only Have Eyes For You, which he certainly did not write. And Bright Eyes, which was written by Mike Batt. I do not know All Know.

Just checked, All I Know was written by Jimmy Webb
