I made contact with Claire Roberts, manager of HiViz Event Management & Promotions who are handling the 2016-17 Australian tour of the "Sundown" Gordon Lightfoot tribute show mentioned in JJ's 7Jun2016 Lightfoot Covers thread "GL tribute Aussie style".

Claire related the following story:
"I was lucky enough to see Gord at the concert hall in Perth in 1974. I was living there at the time. I remember the concert well and remember it was a great concert. He didn’t speak to the audience for the first half hour of the show, but when he did start speaking, he spoke about seeing a Tasmanian devil he saw in a zoo down there. It obviously caught his attention!"

Dave adds: I assume by her words "down there" that the zoo was in Tasmania (Australia's island state, south of Melbourne in the south-east corner of the country). Gord performed in Tasmania's capital city, Hobart, on 21Sep1974 in between Melbourne/Sydney and Adelaide/Perth/Brisbane.

(The "Bugs Bunny" cartoon version you may remember. Tasmanian devils obviously don't spin like a tornado, but I've seen them continuously circling fast around a little knoll at Healesville Sanctuary near Melbourne.)
