I hesitate to post this, because it's not a particularly good cover... but for completists, I stumbled across a 1982 live cover of Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by NRBQ. It was their final song of the night, and they do not take it seriously at all.

I'm not going to post a direct link, I'll send you to where I found it, on the ROIO archive of various live recordings.

Yeah, it's pretty horrible. I'd rank it up there amongst the worst GL covers out there.

Ah, yes, I've heard that one before but it's been many years. Pretty bad singing but the rest of the production was not badly done. Some might say Jag Panzer's version of Wreck was bad as well, but that one might actually be my favorite cover of Wreck.

I didn't say this NRBQ cover was the worst GL cover, it was just among them. ;) The Zip Code Rapists' version of Sundown may be the worst cover, but it's not really a cover, it's more a bunch of ranting and bitching with profanity...
