Legendary Performance at the PBS Soundstage by the “Canadian National Treasure” in 1979.

Includes the entire WIOQ-FM broadcast
Digitally remastered for greatly enhanced sound quality
Background liners

Canada’s greatest and most recognised songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is also known internationally as a folk-rock legend who has inspired a healthy following of such enthusiasts within a mainstream audience. Having written songs that cross the divides breaching country and folk and achieving critical and international acclaim for Black Day In July in the late sixties (inspired by racial events in America at the time), Lightfoot’s strength of repertoire boasted global hits such as 1974’s If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, Carefree Highway and The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, the latter of which hints at his style of historical approach in writing. By 1979, his legacy was abundant and apparent to many, both on camera and on stage. Lightfoot also provided film-makers with the soundtrack for the nautical documentary Ghosts of Cape Horn, a song that appears in his televised Soundstage performance from 1979 simultaneously broadcasted by WIOQ-FM in Philadelphia.

Echoes very proudly presents the entire surviving broadcast by Philadelphia’s WIOQ-FM of the legendary appearance at the PBS Soundstage by the “Canadian national treasure” in 1979.

Wwo! This is definitely worth ordering! That concert was excellent! I didn't realize @ the time that our local radio station WIOQ FM ( a progressive rock station - album tracks, with a folk, folk/rock component) did a simulcast of the concert.

Here's to hope that the original TV broadcast will also surface as an official DVD one of these days!

OK Gunter,it was nice to see your name here again a mere 8 years almost since you last deigned to post here
If that means that you have not seen all the activity here meanwhile you just might have missed the fact that an obviously and presumably unofficial issue (shorn of any originating credits) has been available for a while from Amazon's UK website under the catchy title "Troubadour"
http://corfid.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=6619&d=1390936572
see the pair of threads
from April 2014
http://corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=12188
and from January 2014

There are still "two copies" left on Amazon UK see
Gordon Lightfoot - Troubadour / Live: Amazon.co.uk: Gordon Lightfoot: DVD & Blu-ray
the complete1979 concert is of course on YouTube at
(I'll post this as a plain hyperlink as the display feature here is too iffy for me to bother with anymore)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVaf0G56-l8
and anybody with an iota of inquisitiveness/internet savvy can easily find how to download that video from youtube then burn their own DVD from it
It WAS AT THE TIME successfully embedded/displayed in a corfid posting by TG at

My copy of the CD arrived this morning and I have just compared it to the Troubadour Live DVD. The DVD is great, but the sound quality on the CD is better.

^ I hope it becomes available again. That concert is a treasure. It's great to have it on DVD, but I want to be able to listen to it anywhere on CD, especially since this was a simulcast from Philly!

Finally had a chance to sit down and listen to this all the way through. It was amazing. Terry's playing is just ethereal. What a treat to hear the comments from the band members. I just don't have the words to describe how much I appreciated this release. I did have to stand up to holler "NOOOO!!!" when the Trilogy got cut off, but I did just that so many years ago when Soundstage cut numbers at the end of the show, then, too. Sigh.
