Funny to learn years later such a road exists in Arizona and Gord had it in mind when writing the song.

fun photo back during out 2002 discussions, when John posed by the sign :)

hey, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Gord recording is first album by performing 4 cuts from the Lightfoot! album last week… might be doing a full show playing the entire album as a follow up (or more likely the tunes he used to play live at that time) … unlike myself, Stinson was on top of that huge milestone but i was thinking it's the biggest one yet… the rest is history:clap:

….probably still my have album cover… but Sundown aint bad cover either

in your net interview, maybe suggest to gord to release vinyl version of that album, like he did with Sundown recently… i like those extra studio notes that you posted from it…. that's what it's all about… celebrating the creation

^ What a great picture! We've been to AZ many times (my brother & family, and several cousins on my husband's side live there), and one day we took a side trip to Carefree. As we entered the town, we saw a regular size "Carefree Highway" sign just before we saw the boulders. We were so excited about seeing the sign , that we took a picture of it, not knowing @ the time there was any connection to the song (this goes back to the 1980's).

As one whose lived in AZ since'80 and not all that far from Carfree Highway,
I can tell you,94.5 Kool FM here in Phoenix, gives that tune a spin about every 3 to 5 days.

I never get tired of it but I wonder about others who are not Lightfoot fans.

Don't forget about the annniverary of the Newsweek
article in the issue of November 24, 1975,regarding the Fitzgerald accident.

Don't see why that matter, as long as you enjoy his work.

Well yes it does matter that others may or may not enjoy his work!

There are people who for whatever reason (age probably) who have not had a chance/opportunity to appreciate.

good point, L! … here is something of a "reaction sampling":

i have a comp CD of Gord (not the non-standard stuff, that I love, but the "hits") and was playing it in background for 8 young cousins, age range from 15 down to 3

Sundown, Early Morning Rain, Wreck, IYCRMM, Carefree Highway… next was Daylight Katy…but one younger spoke up and said "what was that last song? can I hear it again?"… the other said, "yeah, sweeeeeet"

lol… i think that is one of the most infectious intros, and singalong choruses … "Every Highwa-a-ay" …lol

Lol! Was it one of the older cousins who liked it? Every Highway...I remember there being a misheard lyrics thread here that was super funny.

It's the best feeling when you introduce a song to someone who "doesn't like that kind of music" (what?) or has never heard of GL and they actually like it!

And if you think about it, if my opinion was all that mattered, why even bother visiting corfid at all? I'd be alone on my own cloud 9, not caring who agrees/disagrees and most importantly not wanting to "share the wealth":)

Sundown was the first album I ever bought. I was in 9th grade and I had a free period at school, so I walked across the street to the record store and bought it. I didn't concentrate much the rest of the day at school because I was mesmerized by the beautiful man on the album cover, and I just wanted to get home and play the music. Thanks for bringing that memory back for me, Char.
