View Full Version : Did Gord record or write an instrumental?

A question just occurred to me. Several of my other favourite recording artists (including James Taylor, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens and Ian Anderson) have released instrumental tracks, i.e. tracks on which they did not sing. As Gord's songwriting has proven world-class re melody, instrumentation, etc, there's no doubt he could have done this too. But I can't recall hearing a Lightfoot instrumental. Do any of you know of him recording or writing one? Or if he never did, have you heard him say why not?
no… actually, his music really doesnt have many instrumentals within it …all those guitar solos as quite rapid (a dozen seconds?) as they move through the verse chord progressions …that's why I love the intro to Cabaret …we had a thread of favourite song "intros" but mainly got the Wreck, the Sundown vamp, Carefree highway, etc
i have a recording I made which is only instrumental versions.. why ruin it with vocal, lol…whereas when you can sing like Gordon, why bother having instrumentals? lol … I don't think of Gord or the artists mentioned, as masters of their instruments… except Ian perhaps… correct me on that
nice question, Dave
btw, if you listened to the segmented Quad tracks from Sundown and COTS then you can heard pure (non vocal) versions of the music and that is a real treat in itself

More interesting would be if he would actually ever
do a male/female duet.....and why he never has in the first place.
I'd have totally dug a team up of him and Judy Collins.
Ha, Gord said he won't be dabbling with duets again
nothing on record (in Celine/Bocelli fashion) but quite a few we've seen:
Thicke and Gord
Cash and Gord
McCoo and Gord
Ian, Sylvia and Gord
Denver (?) and Gord
Judy was at the reunion with Ian and Sylvia but I didnt see them sing
She beat out Gord for his first Grammy award (Did She Mention My Name nomination) so maybe they wrestled rather than sang together, lol
