IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM

By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

it was a wet cold service in Orillia today, but the speech about John McCrae's poem and the red poppy, were very warming

the day before i had been 3 hours south west of there at his birthplace/homestead ...quite a nice 'poem' monument out in the garden

the sculptor Gino Cavicchioli who did the bust of Lightfoot is using the photo to do a statue of John McCrae

where is the statue going to go? mainly for his own collection perhaps?

he may have lost out to the lady commissioned to do they work for the 100th anniversary of his writing the poem...it will be unveiled May 2015 (published Dec 2015) in Ottawa and Guelph in wonderful locations

Ruth is the one who was commissioned to do the Sir John A MacDonald, the Glenn Gould on the bench (outside CBC), Oscar Peterson, Arnie Palmer, Big Ben, Al Waxman (oops), Bethune, WLMackenzie King, etc

where is the Gord bust again? on your mantel? in your arms, right beside yours?

i like this pic of Dr. John McCrae and his dog the best

umm, the statue of Sir John A should have had empty beer bottles instead of pumpkins...he apparently made Rob Ford look like a tea totaler ;)
