NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, and The Replacements are among first-time nominees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The hall of fame announced its annual list of nominees Wednesday morning and half the field of 16 were first-time nominees. YES, Link Wray and The Zombies also received their first nominations.

More than 600 voters will determine the class of 2014. Inductees will be announced in December and a ceremony will be held next April in New York. The induction will be aired on HBO in May.

Nirvana is nominated in its first year of eligibility. If selected for induction, the band would enter the hall of fame almost exactly 20 years after frontman Kurt Cobain's suicide at age 27.

Ronstadt receives her first nomination not long after she shared news that she has Parkinson's disease. Fans have long questioned her absence from the hall's roster of stars. Similarly, long-denied YES joins the list after Rush finally struck a blow for prog rock with its induction earlier this year.

Repeat nominees are KISS, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, The Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Chic. It's the eighth nomination for Chic since 2003, but comes as co-founder Nile Rodgers is enjoying widespread attention after his collaboration with Daft Punk earlier this year.

KISS, LL Cool J and Stevens return to the list after absences of several years.

Been awhile since I commented on the R & R Hall Of Fame.

Then again,it's been awahile since they had a list of nominees this interesting.

All singers/bands listed below are waaaaaaaaaay long overdue for induction :

KISS -
Personally #1 on my list for induction. It's time to end the bad blood
between the two uh...."warring" factors. I think we're all tired of hearing about it too.

Nirvana - I agree but I also think it's too soon for them.

Linda Ronstadt - Having worked with some of the biggst names in Rock (Eagles,Paul Simon,Chuck berry etc.,I think it's deserved.

Peter Gabriel - I couldn;t possibly think of any argument against it.

Hall and Oates - Way overdue, should have been in in the late '90s/

The Replacements - I've only heard gvood things about htem, haven;'t heard them,I think.

Yes - Simple YES on that idea.

Cat Stevens - He (Like Gordon) certainly deserves it.

Deep Purple - Do it!

The Meters - Very underappreciated in their genre of music.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band - Not too familiar with the music but I know they should be in.

Chic - I don't care if they are disco, they made the "Best" disco of the 1970s. Great production work.

The Zombies - Also underappreciated. I have "The Ebst of The Zombies and theyr'e msuic speaks for itself.

I'm personally Including the longest overdue actThe Moody Blues.
What is the R&RHOF's problem with them? Maybe their not as much rock as
they are "art rock" but still, they deserve it and I'll keep saying so until they're inducted.

My opinion on :

LL Cool J - Not an argument from me,he's honed his rap act since age 13 in 1981.
N.W.A. - While not exactly my kind of thing,I feel they are just as eligible as any artist(s) with an attitude.
Link Wray - Not familar with the act's works

Go KISS!!! YEAH! :)

At last!!! I know some of you have got to be happy about Cat Stevens and I know
there's millions out there who have been vindicated with KISS finally being inducted.

One thing I have to say,if Cat Stevens can get in, I see no reason why Gordon shouldn't.

Anyhow,I copied this from from USA Today. This year's inductees are :

KISS. Instantly recognized for their flashy attire and black-and-white face paint, these iconic heavy-metal rockers are best known for their Alive!, Love Gun and Destroyer albums, as well as their reputation for putting on dazzling, pyrotechnic-laden performances.

Peter Gabriel. The former Genesis frontman brought funky, synth-infused flavor to hits such as Sledgehammer and Shock the Monkey, but arguably made his biggest impact with the powerful anti-apartheid anthem Biko.

Hall & Oates. With smooth vocal harmonies soaring over rich, pop-rock melodies, Daryl Hall and John Oates brought rhythm & blues to the top of the charts, scoring smash singles such as I Can't Go for That (No Can Do), Private Eyes and You Make My Dreams.

Nirvana. Led by late singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain, this grunge-rock trio cemented its place in rock history with early '90s hits such as Lithium, Heart-Shaped Box and Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Linda Ronstadt. At the forefront of the folk- and country-rock movements, this full-voiced beauty made her name with covers of Blue Bayou and You're No Good.

Cat Stevens. One of the biggest-selling artists of the early '70s, the mellow British songsmith crafted introspective, tranquil tunes such as Peace Train, Wild World and The First Cut Is the Deepest.

Heeeyy! I just noticed, the first 4 I mentioned in my last post got in! Pretty good guess! :)
