I don't know how this question will sound but what does he mean by "Softly She Comes?"
Only other time I've heard that term in a song was the 1959 tune by the Fleetwoods called "Come Softly Darling."

Softly She Comes ... in the night..... She has gone (come) to him in the night, it's a furtive meeting, seemingly clandestine, she spends the night and then she then goes in the dawn.
Come and go...

As a kid when I heard this song I invisioned instead of taking place in the house somewhere outside at night.
When he sings "Down the darken Hall" it should be obvious that he's inside but as a young child sometimes you don't always hear things right.
Anyway here's the original recording.

Now the YT police removed the original and all wh're stuck with is the remake.
That would including the remake of W&W.
Both versions of The Way I Feel and Crossroads.
