Very sorry to hear this sad news.
Sam sure had stories. I loved hanging out there and would sometimes spend half the day just browsing.
My complete Gordon Lightfoot record collection was purchased at Sam's.
He also had the most amazing collection of pictures on the walls and above the record stands. Most of them of course were photos of him with big name folks. There was a really great one of him there with Gord.
End of another era for sure.
Condolences to his family.

Public memorial sometime in October..details to come.
thinking back to record hunting days going back to the 1970's, i never thought that specific interactions with Sam would become keepsake memories...just took it for granted and looked at it as a Yonge St shopping experience with the owner helping a customer...usually saw that big smile close up but sometimes he was a bit grumbly when i'd ask waaay too many questions about this and that and this and that, lol...he would say "look again, maybe it's misfiled...customers don't always put things back in their place, you know"...he was a busy guy especially when i was there on new release days and CHUM chart publish days...for 3 years, i went to school around the corner so during spares (and non-spares:)) i saw lots of A+A, Sam's and Music World...all within a stone's throw
he last helped me back in the early 90's...located a depression era Bunny Berigan track ...it became the first dance at my wedding years later...thank you, Sam
btw, WHO CAN NAME SOME OF THE RECORDS SEEN HERE? (other than "Lightfoot" "Back Here on Earth" and "Don Quixote")

I remember the Life and Times show on him a few years ago. The thing that stuck with me was how after all the decades that had passes, all his success and having his own family he was still the little boy whose father abandoned his family. It was very touching and heartbreaking to see and hear his pain when he spoke of it..
I see Julio Iglesias..
name of the record please? lol.... use your google-y eyes:eek:
i will keep an eye open for that life and times, thx
...i can hear his voice in my head... he for some reason reminded me a little of the uncle in Mary Poppins who sang "I Love to Laff" :)
