'best' is subjective and many here will say All of Them! :)

this is the article that sparked the thought:

I would think even the masses who are ignorant to the Lightfoot catalogue must sing along to Sundown or Carefree Highway when the choruses come around

I know only 3 of the 10 songs.
lol
I never have problems singing along with the anthem.

Best Lightfoot sing along - Alberta Bound is a great one for a sing along.
Especially in Alberta.

I'm not surprised that "Advance Australia Fair" was judged the 3rd-easiest anthem to sing along with. Someone here discovered that its lyrics fit perfectly with the theme music of "Gilligan's Island".

Cobwebs & Dust kinda has that "10 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall" repetition going for it, lol.

I'm doing some guitar-and-voice music in a hospital lobby this week, of course with a good dose of Lightfoot. Wonder what works best in that kind of environment, hmmm ...

Since I have worn out countless records, tapes (8 track and cassette) and CDs listening to Gordon Lightfoot music, my list of sing-a-longs is pretty extensive but here are a few that come to mind in no particular order:

Canadian Railroad Trilogy
Boss Man
Hi-way Songs
Summertime Dream
Restless
The Patriot's Dream
Whispers of the North
Morning Glory
You are what I am
Sea of Tranquility
Seven Island Suite
10 Degrees and Getting Colder
Summer Side of Life
The Gypsy
Knotty Pine
Spanish Moss

Seriously ? Nary a one has mentioned "Canary Yellow Canoe".

I was working in a somewhat noisy environment today - which covered over the sound of my voice as I sang out some "Race Among The Ruins". Also, "...try to believe me, I'll do anything that you say" is another piece I either sing or whistle to myself when I'm at work....lol.

What immediately sprang to mind is Ghosts of Cape Horn. How can a song with whistling in it not be a great sing-a-long song?

Any time Ed, Derek, Lori, Bill, Matt, Kenyon and myself, or any of the old newsgroupers got together to play, the one song that everyone in the room would join in on was Canadian Railroad Trilogy. That song seems to be a favorite among Lightfoot fans, almost like an anthem.

For me it would have to be Canadian Railway Trilogy & Alberta Bound.
