so warm yet chilling, just when I thought I'd heard every moving version of this song....

SVGMC - Song For A Winter's Night - YouTube

it's hard to believe, 8 weeks from now we'll all be donning our joyous apparel

heh, true, i think i saw John Voight in there :)

you know the teen in Ottawa (who didn't make it through the torment) needed to see and hear these guys for strength and hope...what a Mercer rant, eh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh1jNAZHKIw&feature=channel_video_title

well, i'm an extremely irregular church goer, but when i do find myself there, i hope to hear (and hopefully contribute) to these kind of arrangements and tones...i've never met a hymn i didn't like

I thought it was lovely. Great harmonies, and a very respectful treatment.
And...my second favorite GL song.
I don't hear the timbers creak as often as I should, but I would think that any number of Gord's gems would be welcomed there...

Too late for Praying? ;)

(I'm gonna borrow that 'hear the timbers creak' expression, perhaps in lyric...yes, will get your share of the royalty, my friend... should it go viral, lol)

I'm quite sure many of my favourite Gord lyrics are expressions and phrases that he picked up after hearing family, friends, locals and others he encountered during his travels, and wisely noted them his mental journal. His craft of retrieving them and landing them on a melody, was a blend of magic, hard work and sheer focus. If women, booze and abundance of substance were involved, well, maybe Gord can give it another try, but over a bowl of soup instead...

I believe lots of his early stuff would work well as a choral arrangement. Leaves of Grass. A minor ballad. The groovy version of TWIF. Your Loves Return. Perhaps an epic version of Seven Island Suite, with a cool mid section round and layered crescendo for the latter section. Ahhh
