I so thought New York was about to experience a New Orleans kind of disaster. I was in cyclone yasi this february in cairns australia (http://www.cairnsqueenslandaustralia.com.au), so I've seen a bad one

Not to worry, Johnny. Hurricane season still has a long way to go. I heard about your cyclone, glad you made it out okay.

Johnnie,

Thanks for your thoughtfulness regarding Irene.

While it may be hard for anyone not living in the US, or New York for that matter, to understand, New York City isn't the entire United States. :) The news media doesn't pay lots of attention to the rest of us.

Tropical storms are normally a threat to the US southeast coast. Those of us in Virginia got tagged pretty well by Irene too, but being prepared, we got along OK.

Folks in New England got hit pretty hard because they'd already had a rainy summer and weren't really prepared for all the additional rain a tropical system can bring.

Hurricane Katrina didn't cause most of the damage New Orleans received. That occured after the storm had passed when the levee systems failed. That was more of a man made thing.

Glad you made it through Yasi OK.

Hi John, hurricane is not so bad than earthquake.... Earthquake is more disastrous than hurricane..
