Tweedy is hailed as one of the most respected (and least pretentious) songwriters around. When asked to describe his singing voice in a New York Times article, he replied, “Somewhere between Gordon Lightfoot and a tea kettle. I wouldn’t get past the first round of American Idol.”

i just stumbled across this interview with Jeff from a few years ago. the last question confuses me... would it be a postive or negative comment, but Jeff's always tongue in cheek!

Somewhere between Gordon Lightfoot and a tea kettle. I would not get past the first round of “American Idol.”
