at the blog:
Herohill, a Canadiana blog based out of Halifax, has warmed my Kanuk heart on this fine CANADA DAY with an ambitious project they released today in honor of one of our greatest Canadian folk heros, Gordon Lightfoot, the man behind anthems like ”The Great Canadian Railroad Trilogy” and “If You Could Read My Mind”. Gordie’s the bomb and so are his timeless songs, so it’s rad that Herohill commissioned several Canadian artists (+ one American) to record original covers of his songs they then collected into a compilation album titled Turning Back The Pages Of My Sweet Shattered Dreams, a nod to a lyric from Gordie’s classic “Carefee Highway.”
You can stream three tracks from the project below, a washy “The Summer Side of Life” by Andrew Sisk, a stripped bare “Alberta Bound” by Cam Penner, and a floating “Changes” by Digits, then head over to Herohill to grab the eclectic album FOR FREE.

hA (http://A) most interesting discovery Madam to obtain this free set of covers you simply visit the website at:-
http://www.herohill.com/2011/07/herohill-vs-gordon-lightfoot-turning-back-the-pages-of-my-sweet-shattered-dreams.htm
Where after admiring the simple adaptation of the Don Quixote album cover with the clever new album title lifted from Carefree Highway
"Turning Back The Pages Of My Sweet Shattered Dreams"
one can scroll down to find the convenient download link (the hyperlinked word "here")
Download Turning Back the Pages of My Sweet Shattered Dreams here (http://www.herohill.com/MP3/GordonLightfoot.zip). [210MB]
whereupon you will download a 210 MB zip file
Then use one of the unzipipng programs
(I always use the freeware program jzip see my screed at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=161246&postcount=2
it unzips to a Gordon Lightfoot folder which in turn holds a pair of folders
one ominously named "__MACOSX"
that contains 34 small and highly corrupted so called mp3s of no earthly use to anybody.
the other folder is reassuringly called "Gordon Lightfoot"
in which you will find contains no less than 37 assorted cover mp3s totalling some 206 MB
all sampled at the high quality rate of 320KBPS
so they should therefore produce excellent sounding CDs
(as good as the aural quality of the interpretation will allow)
Yes, OK but how many CDs you may well ask
Opening all 37 in one of my favourite CD burning programs (Burrrn) yes three "R"s
http://johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFOOT/images/shattered.jpg
reveals a grand total of over 143 minutes which my basic calculating machine called "brain" indicates represents a bit less than 2 80 minute CDs
I will when time permits try to listen to all 37 and eliminate some inevitable dross to select one CD's worth for further evaluation

that link for all the songs is in my post...
Can anyone recommend a track for listening?
My browser seems to show about four different sample mp3s. Perhaps it changes daily.
