could be quite interesting:

Phil Ochs: There But For fortune

i put this under the GL forum thinking it might generate some cool or fun replies:

Question: if and when there is a Gordon Lightfoot film, what would you put forth as a tagline/subtitle?

I suppose it's almost like coming up with something to put on a headstone

I have many ideas but will refrain for now...however, the first was simple:

Gordon Lightfoot: Words and Music by

enjoy::

the "What a tale his thoughts could tell' and "If You Could Read His Mind"...bylines have been used a lot over the years so would like to see something new...altho both are perfect.

hmmmm....

Gordon Lightfoot: Words and music by one grateful guy from Orillia, Ontario.

;)

cool...and your'e right (duh!), i guess many, many have found themselves as part of the headline/subject line for personal interest article headlines...such as The Legend Lives On (that one in the Spec right before his Hamilton comeback gig:))

as for the tombstone, i guess two always come to mind:

A Painter Passing Through (his most autobiographical song, iho)

or:

Heaven Don't Deserve Me (irony, wit, plus it speaks to his past...all so Lightfootian)

or my fave:

Gordon Lightfoot: There Goes Mister Cool....

charlene

yeah - Mister Cool...

that works for me...
;)

Gordon Lightfoot..."In My Fashion" is another.

or "Gordon Lightfoot - who the hell would want to watch this?"
lol
(that's what I imagine he'd think especially after he said 'who the hell would want to read it?" when the subject of a book came up,..lol)

LOL, that could play as a Drive In double bill, along with this one:

Ian Tyson: It's all Bullshit!

;)

cool, char..i was thinking in 3rd person for titling, so, yeah, I'd dig: In His Fashion

ok, i'll try hush up a bit and maybe others (who aren't watching NFL) will play...

I would think it would have something about "Trilogy" in it. As far as I can figure out right now.

It could be a TRILOGY of movies...his life in 3 parts...each with it's own focus..
good idea Shorty!
3 is MUCH better than 1.
Now we have to think of THREE titles..
lol

The Legend Lives On or A Painter Passing Through are probably two of the best choices.

Also, maybe:
Minstrel Of The Dawn
Songs The Minstrel Sang
Hi’Way Songs
Long Way Back Home
Songbook of a Troubadour

How about Ordinary Man? Gord is so humble, so that would fit. Then after you watch the movie, you realize how "unordinary" he actually is.

oh my, we think alike (i'm so sorry for you, lol)

i found that rm had started a similar thread some time ago and that was my reply, Ordinary Man (i don't know why it attributes my post to the awol stationmaster...are we sure he and jessie are not one and the same? they both seem to disappear without notice and then reappear like they haven't missed a beat)

http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=13769&highlight=ordinary

good ones, guys...trilogy, interesting (1. pre-wed - 2.? - 3. post-booze?)

and i also thought of one of your very cool ones, red...but for the one that i loved the ring to (and the song), i thought, it's not a long way back home, he never left:)

did someone post that the minstrel of the dawn was about Red? i can't recall

back to my original thought, i like rm's It's Worth Believin'...cool bio thread!

I believe the 'attributing posts to the wrong screen name' arose when Florian made the format changes to the forum some years ago.

I had forgotten about that thread you mention, but I'll stick with that suggestion :

Gordon Lightfoot : It's Worth Believin'.

Welp, there is always, "Gordon Lightfoot: Beautiful". Or, "Stone Cold Sober". Or, "Harmony". Or, "East of Midnight"

You're absolutely right that in the geographical and philosophical sense, he never did. My line of thinking on this (late last night) was metaphoric, i.e. that it was A Long Way Back Home to peace and clarity.

But after reading your post, I do see how some folks could be scratching their heads over this one.

I checked out RM's old thread and was surprised I didn't post a response. Guess I missed that one. I like the It's Worth Believin' suggestion best I think.

wow, great...and everyone less shallow than myself probably got that 1st time:)

a few more that popped into my head:

*Gordon Lightfoot: This Is My Song

(how can you top that? lol...and it was one of the first songs he wrote, no?)

*Gordon Lightfoot: That Same Old Obsession

(i kinda used this as the 'fan' reprise for first FOL video - rj picked up on it)

*Gordon Lightfoot: The Wherefore and The Why

(i just like it)

*Gordon Lightfoot: Love and Maple Syrup

(all three go together, imo)

hey, morgaine, what does East of Midnight mean/imply? i like it, and this!

*Gordon Lightfoot: Stone Cold Sober

(i think it would have people waiting in line at the box office)

well, up til now (although the's had his moments) i think the title has been:

*Gordon Lightfoot: I'm Not Sayin'

;)

LOL! - that's for sure!
Well "he's not sayin"to his fans anyway...maybe to his old friends and such but the fans will wait patiently I'm sure.. We've waited this long.
;)

And Dave Bidini is working on his book so that will be a nice read I'm sure. Not a book written by Lightfoot himself but we'll take what we can.

Yes, "I'm Not Sayin'" is probably perfect.

"East of Midnight" always just seemed like a fanciful, magical kind of title to me - was that the album title or was that a song on Salute?

Your first thought is correct , Morgaine (love that name. Arthur fan too?). It's an album title and a great song. I agree that it's a magical title. A former beau and GL fan once said to me that if you imagine the clock as a compass and midnight is north...East of Midnight is 3 am (or pm too if you don't do military time). I thought that was kinda cool.

Personally I like Ordinary Man...but I'll be happy with any title as long as Gord is willing to write the story and someone make the movie.

The Mists of Avalon is my favorite book. But I guess GL fans tend to be on the romantic side :)

Would prefer Steven Spielberg to produce/director as opposed to Oliver Stone or James Cameron!
