I posted a nice thought on the matter though suprisingly everyone thought it was a joke.

Something isn't it?

I repeated it here.

Fortunatly somebody did agree but look at everyone else there.

Thought I'd revive this again.

Last night I was at a neighborhood park and some teen girls or young women were smoking and though their cigarette butts on the ground. There were already several of them there.

So I did and somewhat odd thing.

I went up to them politely and asked them about the the Gulf Oil Spill. Funny they did say anything about it.

I then nicely pointed out their actions, pointed out the other garbage on the ground asking, "Do you really not see anything wrong with this picture?" Also I asked the questions I posted in the threads in my first post.

No one said much about the rest of my comentary, though one said something like, '' They should have ash trays in the parks." I said, Like I said before, break off the piece that's still burning or wait till it goes out and put it back in your purse or cigarette pack."

Well that was it and I walked away but remained in the park a while longer.

Interestingly enough, they were all drinking something and they through there cups in the can.

Maybe I did make a difference in their thinking and maybe not.

Of course what I wonder if I went up to 10 other people asking them their litering, wonder how many might end up reconsidering their actions vs. those who wouldn't?

I must admit, that if a person will go so far as to toss an empty cup in the trash, then why on earth can't they see fit to do the same with a cigarette butt?

Well like I said I had walked away from them but they remained in the park a little while longer. Since I kept my distance from them they could of thought about what I said and could of tossed out any other cigarettes thay might have smoked when they left.

But since they were for the most part unresponsive, probably not.

an empty cup has no chance of setting the bin on fire

Of course 1 thing I wonder is, do you think most smokers are like this?

I don't assume most of them are and I always like to think that there are plenty who do acre and are carefull but in this age, I wonder if those who don't outnumber those who don't?

You've really done a brave thing and I think you've made an impact that is why they did the right thing with the cups. I do hope everyone should learn and do this. It's high time to start caring for the environment, not later, not tomorrow but now.

Don't mean to drag this on but for all those who smoke and routinely throw their butts on the ground, I wonder, how many of them that to end up quitting and later regret their behavior?

Not referring to their smoking habit but their littering of course.
