hey, char or anyone else who may recall:

not so long ago a thread/link was posted which had a site containing many samplers/sound bites from GL song recordings...there were hundreds...i'm looking to quickly sift through his catalogue (beyond just Songbook tracks)...any recollection or know what the key word was you may have used in the subject line?

thanks!

Yes well James Sorry to say that I for one do not recall such a thread here BUT there was time in this fair land when a certain prominent GL fan had on her magnificently cornucopial website a listing of every song recorded by Gord all nicely tabulated alphabeticlly and showing on which album(s) each song appeared on, plus clicking any song title would play a 30 second sample of the recording to refresh your memory.Sadly back in 2004 she decided to stop fighting the powers that were and took most of her website down, then revamped it and reuploaded it as a general folk music website with a special emphasis on Gord.
However the page in question lives on but now each song title links to a lyrics page only whereas the previous sample links were most useful
BUT there is website that has 260 audio samples it is called amazon .com!!
try
http://www.amazon.com/Gordon-Lightfoot/e/B000AQ05V8/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_8?qid=1285246702&sr=8-8
scroll down a tad and you should be able to see this
http://johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFOOT/images/10_top_downloads.jpg
As an example of a sample go to page 5 and then click on Seven Island Suite a Sundown album page appears and then scroll down to see a play button:-

If having selected a song and opened the relevant page as in the example above you then click the "play all samples" button as indicated by the mouse cursor in that screenshot the sample of your selected song as featured on that page will play.
Unfortunately the 260 songs have been sorted in order of download popularity rather than a more logical and useful order such as alphabetically or by album so you have to hunt and pick and I do not know whether every song on the hallowed 20 albums is included. but it seems to me to be a viable alternative to the by album listing on

the by album listing on
http://www.cduniverse.com/sresult.asp?psychicsearch=on&HT_Search=ARTIST&HT_Search_Info=Gordon+Lightfoot&style=music&altsearch=yes

on CDd universe I now see that there is in fact a similar listing in alphabetical order on
http://www.cduniverse.com/mp3search.asp?HT_Search=mp3artist&HT_Search_Info=Gordon+Lightfoot
scroll down to see
All Matches by Song Name
there are many duplications hence the apparently greater total of 339 songs

thanks for the amazing Amazon link, that is more easy to sift through than what i was using...if you click on Song Title heading then it will deliver them in alpha order

thanks for the brief history of time, and the gl.com timeline...one day maybe it will be solely dedicated to the man since, imo, he's in a genre of his very own but then again he does play the Mariposa 'Folk' Festival...i doubt he cares...btw, tip to newbies: val send out a cool newsletter

i don't understand why amazon can have clips but gl.com can't since they both seem to sell stuff with the artist(s) ultimately benefiting...i think ed had a problem with that type of thing also...btw, some great 60th bday pic of ed and friends at this cool site...i check there 'now and then' for new music jam files:clap:

thanks to your amazon tip, i just did a trial going thru the song titles A and B they've listed (not all are there) and all seem to be with capo+2 except Anything for Love (+1 Ab) plus Bells of the Evening and Bitter Green (+3 F) ..odd that he played the latter in E for the GG1 sessions
