I have thought of this the other day and would like your opinion on it.

As the rest of you are, I am estatic that GL is on the Letterman show. Looking forward to this one.

Reading your posts, there are some pretty good replies from all of you concerning what GL song he will sing.

My question to you is, Do you think GL knows what song or songs he will sing? Meaning, when he closed the deal to be on the Letterman show, did GL immediately think to himself I will sing "this song...or that song"? Or is it a last minute, or close to last minute decision?

Would like to hear your thoughts...

He probably has an idea for 2 or 3 tunes that could be possibly played and will decide on the day of the taping. He changes setlists before shows and once in a while during a concert he will add/drop a planned tune.

Also to add; The Letterman people must have told him to do a song not longer than a specific time ?

I looked around, and saw that Letterman's audience is 58% female with an average age of around 55.

I'm sticking with IYCRMM.

My gut feeling is that most people recognize his name and will immediately associate it with Sundown, IYCRMM or the Wreck. I'd like to see him do Restless or Painter Passing Through, something relatively recent that shows all those folks who only ever hear him on the "Oldies Station" that they are missing a lot of great music.

My guess is that Paul Schaeffer and band will be doing fills throughout the show of iconic Gord tunes. I hope Gord picks something that's still in great form instead of straining a hit.

I really think he'll do a song that better fits his current sound. I think "A Painter Passing Through" would work nicely. Any of his 70s top 40 songs I don't think will work to the casual listener. I could be wrong and I don't care if I am. What ever he sings is fine by me! Just having GL on a late popular late night television show is wonderful news.

The one song that my friends liked at concerts [these are friends who are only familiar with his big hit songs] on first listen was A PAINTER PASSING THROUGH. I think this would be a good one since it is autobiographical and he usually performs it very well. Other two songs that he aces all the time is SHADOWS [his most romantic, IMHO] & RESTLESS [most electic]. But as others stated above, it really doesn't matter - GL is going to be on Letterman!
