While congratulations to Mr Fowles are of course in order a word of caution to those of a different vintage , (as we all are) . People need to realise that the date of John's birth is most likely only approximate . When John was born only primitive recording methods were in existence. Arranged pieces of bark and berries from a tree , or a few notches in the trunk in mystical patterns the meaning of which has been clouded in the sands of time were all that were used to record such events. Certainly you have to take your hat off to him though. He must still be pretty sprightly to avoid all the finders for the world's museums who would like to use him as an exhibit.

This might be interesting to note, but according to most websites now, March 10th is also Osama bin Laden's birthday. I don't believe that one. It used to say on most websites that his birthday was July 30th, 1957, (one day after mine) which would make him born at almost the exact time that I was born. I wouldn't be surprised if my mom and his mom got us mixed up. I'm not much into politics, so it's ok with me.

Many thanks to all corfiddlers who wished me a happy birthday, yes it was good one and a warning to the young New Jersey whippersnapper/hooligan I'll deal with you later!!
I have just spent some of the money I received as a present on a much needed new wristwatch.I had previously favoured combined analog/digital models (that usually displayed in a single neat digital window the day and date AND the time , but the last one I bought was on the surface a super Casio Waveceptor analog/digital which had the bonus of atomic time correction using the radio signal from Fort Collins Colourado. Unfortunately it fell victim in common with three earlier Casios to their ridiculous under enginering which led to one of the four lugs holding the pins for the wristband to the watch body breaking off for no good reason, just after the warranty expired of course.
I did some internet searching to ideally find an atomic and found to my dismay that ebay was infested with yet more Caisos. No thanks and the offerings from other sales outlets seemed to be limited to analog dials with a small window that only shows the time OR the day and date. I noted
plain digitals seemed to be priced just under $30.00 and combined analog/digital a little over. But I saw not one I really liked.
Another consideration was that I prefer an expanding metal bracelet/watchband and many of the watches on sale had leather or worse resin bands or metal ones with an awkward latching clasp as had the Waceceptor.
I searched again concentrating on atomic watches and found two differently badged talking atomic watches the cheaper one at $29.95

I reasoned that an audible time announcement was as desirable as my prefered digital display so I ordered one and was delighted to find on checkout that because this is ostensibly for blind people and the seller is based in Abbotsford BC Canada, it qualified for free postage for the blind.It arrived quickly and other than being a tad on the thick side, (like our new governor fezo/Steve) it is very satisfactory.
It arrived with the correct day and date but for EST an hour slow.During the initial set up it got the CO atomic master clock signal easily and then the hands motored round on their own to the correct time (to the second too), highly recommended.
One slightly comical point fortunately I can see perfectly but the extensive 16 page folded instruction sheet was plain printed and not supplied in Braille.
