Sundown and SSOL, and they both still play!
When I came "of age" 8-tracks were being replaced by cassettes so I never owned anything on 8-track.

Sundown was definitely the one that got a lot of air play... 8 track tapes were such a pain to make durable.

I just stumbled across this posting and had to reply... I too have serveral GL 8 tracks. the only player I have is the one in the 1975 chevy truck that came with the 8 tracks. The truck was a gift from my mom, the tapes were in a cabinet in the camper. What great memories I have of weekend trips with my mom where we sat on the roof of the camper, taking in the rays, listening to Gordon's voice playing on the 8 track. Nothing better. I don't think i can part with that old truck.

You "guys" brought back a lot of memories.
I used to have all of them but literally abused them in my '72 Buick Riviera and '74 Electra 225.

I had an 8 track in my 1971 LeMans. During the summer of 1974, it started smoking and burned up my Jim Croce tape. I'd only had the 8 track for about a month. After swearing, and calling it a few choice names I decided to take it back to Zayre's (the local department store where I bought it). I didn't think I stood much of a chance of getting it replaced, because I didn't have a receipt. But sure enough they gave me a new one, which lasted for about three years. Years later, I sold the car to a young guy in town. He rewired it, put dual exhaust, fender flares and wide tires on, and gave it a new paint job. One day, I saw him drive up the Strickland Road, right by our house. I yelled, "Hey, there goes the Lemans!" A while later, I went outside to get the mail, and I noticed a black mushroom cloud about a mile up the road. Shortly after that, a couple of fire trucks went by, and about an hour later, a flatbed truck drove by... with the charred remains of my poor old Lemans.
