I got this idea from reading the thread of Endless Wire; how Gordon sometimes has very intimate lyrics. Some songs that come to mind are:
1. Approaching Lavender
2. Affair on 8th Ave.
3. Spanish Moss
4. Hangdog Hotel Room
Can anyone think of anything else? Let's keep it clean out of respect for the Man.

Shadows for sure....
Thank you for the Promises-
The future is our goal
The night is black as coal
If I could pay the price
I'd like to love you once
I'd love to love you twice

Stone Cold Sober and The Last Time I Saw Her instantly spring to mind.

"Shadows", yes! I forgot "aboot" that great song. Also I think "Waiting for you" belongs in this list. I didn't think it was a song about intimacy until Gord mentioned it at the Reno Concert, on April 19, 2000. (I could be wrong, but I think he said this is a song about making babies. It may be another concert)
Also his song "Uncle Toad Said" seems to be like an old man rebuking or warning or teaching his children.Gord is totally Fatherly in this role. I love him!

"If Children Had Wings"

"There's a love I hold dear
And it shines through each year
And it makes things seem different somehow"

"There were things that were said
There were things that were done
And a wife cannot stand too much pain
And what I thought was best
Couldn't please her much less
But my love still goes on, that don't change"

Apology

"But I could not go inside,
I heard the sound of laughter
And the rustle of her hair upon his skin;
I made a grab at anything,
The earth was gone and I was on
A vicious circle then.

And still I think when I'm alone
Away from all night splendor;
If gold could buy one night with her,
I wish I had some to send her."

I can actually feel the hurt and the longing.

Farewell to Annabel, You Are What I Am, Christian Island (Georgian Bay), A Tree Too Weak To Stand - and someone posted If Children Had Wings, which is to me among Gord's most personal, and even Betty Called Me In......

How about "Stone Cold Sober"? I love that song especially the Red Rocks live recording.

Canary Yellow Canoe

"In my canary yellow canoe, my elephant too"

I don't know what it means, but it sounds personal.

How could I have missed that? Great song and likely personal to a whole lot of us...

Off hand, I couldn't think of any that were as good as the ones you listed. Of the ones there, my personal favourites are Spanish Moss & Hangdog Hotel Room, though Hang Dog is really more of a rowdy, fun loving sort of tune that celebrates the kind of fun that a bunch of good ol' boys would have when they get together alone.

of love lost running through my brain..."

"In my canary yellow canoe, my elephant too"

i think this is a correct answer...even though intimacy and canoes don't mix too well

i've got some answers but i'm still trying to figure out the question

alberta bound has that lyric that 'if you got the money.....guarantee to make you smile'

....seems intimate enough to me

Those are all great contributions, it's hard to remember all of his songs because he made over 20 albums over 45 years.. I still don't have Songbook. Thanks to this great group for the input.
