I was just writing a reply to another member on this site when this question came to me. Have any of Lightfoot's songs inspired you to act on something meaningful or change your point of view about something?

I took up the bass because I LOVED the bass line in IF YOU NEED ME. I have a pretty deep voice, so when I try to sing while playing, I find that hitting the higher range of that song "If you want tooooo" while going down "Like an endless stream" is so darn hard (but a good kind of hard!).

Also, I can clearly remember stopping and really looking at the beauty of nature after seriously listening to SEVEN ISLAND SUITE. I'm no tree-hugger, but I do appreciate greatly the mountains that are 30 minutes up the street from me, and get a bit of hiking in. Whenever I do, I stop and think of how Lightfoots songs really opened my eyes to their beauty.

All you have to do is spend an evening in Northern Ontario and play songs like Whispers of the North, Canadian Railroad Trilogy and Restless for inspiration. One of my favorites is Morning Glory ("I've been all the way to Biscayne Bay and all the way back again.")

I know I certainly took to heart the lyrics of Rainy Day People.

I must admit that my opinion, as well as many other things, have changed due to many of Gordons music. Because of tunes like Canadian Railway Trilogy & other travel related songs, I have done a hell of a lot of traveling, evenif it is only in spirit.
