Great news - I just spoke to my brother, Paul Bartlett, and as many of you are aware, John Stinson and him are performing a Lightfoor cover show, in Aurora, Ontario on May 2/09 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 106 Industrial PKWY North.
They have been in touch with fellow Corfid Member, Dawns Minstrel who has agreed to come from New York and perform at the show as a guest. Many of you have seen the excellent covers he has contributed within the cover section of this site. They are excited to have him on board!
John and Paul have been practicing together throughout the winter months and are dedicating this show to the late Red Shea who was thier friend, mentor and teacher.
Aurora was Red's home town for the past 30 years. This is an evening that many of you Corfid members would really enjoy. Show time starts at 7:30pm. Tickets will be available at the door for 15 dollars. Tickets can also be ordered through contacting WWW.lightfoottribute.ca
This is a small, homey venue with just over 100 seats -- we expect tickets will sell quickly -so if you are thinking of coming to the show, order your tickets ASAP. Corfid members are being advised ahead of time. Next week they will be advertising in the newspaper and on radio.
They expect the concert to be about 2.5 hours of great Lightfoot gold!!
There will also be a screening of vintage film footage of Gordong Lightfoot, Red Shea and John Stockfish performing, which very few folks of seen.

Great news

yes, Great news!
i often wonder how many corfidians even live in southern Ontario, let alone York Region (i know there are a few down in the Niagara area)...anyhow, it would be well worth he drive to Acton...i mean Aurora:) easy to get to from either/and/or 401, 407, 404
great idea to show some Gord...is the footage from Telescope-Lightfoot Forward? sounds cool...i am still looking for the CBC 1968 show that JohnF recorded on reel to reel
idea: a US corfid attendee bus should be chartered, one way:)
all the best:clap:

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to mention here that I'm honored to have been asked to participate in this, that I thank John and Paul for inviting me, and that I look forward to meeting some fellow corfidians there. Now off to the woodshed....

I may have to figure out a way to get to Aurora..
char, the train basically runs right through the venue (the Aurora stop is only minutes away) so GO is ideal...but if it's like the Canadian Pacific line out here (which runs through MY venue, lol) there is no weekend eve service....you are much more familiar with the website and schedules, it makes me dizzy
i would love to capture a barren 'dress' rehearsal on audio/video...setting up cams in front of the stage during shows is so intrusive...hopefully this is the first of many!

james - the boys will have to let you know when they will be getting togethre for rehearsals..if you can make it then get your Fisher Price "My First Camera" up there and record it!
I"ll check the GO website for train times.
good one, lol, it's actually my second one...and it's Melissa & Doug
ideally i'd visit family out east and scoop you on the way back and diagonal north...but it's a rare weekend where they are headed into town for an event (i am taping)...i think the videos that John is posting currently aren't too shabby at all sound wise and there is no moving heads or butts or chatting to compete with, as is often the case "live"
i am sure GL lovers will make up the majority and be hushed throughout the entertainment (and if they aren't i'm sure you'll be having them answer to you directly, lol)
bringing the cream (current events) to the top....

Best of Luck at the show! You guys all play Lightfoot's songs with a lot of talent and emotion. It is a nice tribute to Red for sure. Knock em dead!

hi Tim, no problem
I think it should be bumped at least semi-weekly during the countdown
I've got a scheduling conflict at present but looking forward to, regardless
John, Paul - thought I'd drop a wee 2006 pic here lifted from vid

Hi Tim.
I am also honored to be included as part of this very special show and I really am looking forward to meeting you and other fellow corfidians as well.
It will be a treat to work again with John and Paul as they have proven their worth as we have seen here in their videos.
A notable point about this event is that it is being held in Aurora, the hometown of Red Shea, and John and Paul being students of the master makes it even that much more special.
Cheers, Ron J.

Hi Ron,
I'm very glad to know you're going to be there too. It's going to be great fun. This is a great shot in the arm for me. That is just so cool that John and Paul were Red's students.
Looking forward to meeting you!
best wishes,
Tim
ok, bringing this back to the top as the countdown is on!
if you guys are rehearsing Friday i might be able to be available to help archive it...it hinges on the weather here
if not it seems like there is already a great selection of video to sample from from the various guy's youtube channels

Just in from the show! We had a wonderful evening of music and laughs and catching up with Ron, John, Paul, Mark and meeting Tim aka GordisKing/DawnsMinstrel...An amazing group of talented people! Paul's wife sang a couple of tunes and Ron's son Liam sang harmony with his dad!
My goodness it was a lot of fun.
John and Paul really did a lot of work setting the whole event up with a slide show and videos to see, a great sound system and an amazing selection of Lightfoot tunes.
The place was pretty well full and I'd think there were about 80 folks of all ages out for a celebration of Lightfoot music.
I took pics and there were video cameras set up so there will be some editing etc. and John will be posting it as soon as he gets it done..
I'll work on the pictures tomorrow..
great to hear it went well! congrats to the whole gang (who is mark?)
can't wait to see/hear video...i hope those lenses were zoomed IN tight so we can see Paul's finger work...then again, you can overdo it....lol

i hope this leads to many more gigs...would have loved to meet up, Tim...travel safe (you're a real trooper)

Mark - aka - Musky Man - Paul's brother.
The cameras were set up and then they just ran all night.
I hope John puts up the set list of each performer..lots of tunes Gord doesn't do anymore were sung.
Try to make it to the next one James..
Tim was a super trooper and a fine addition to the many talented Lightheads I've had the pleasure of seeing.
Thanks to all!
sounds great, a multi-camera shoot which will be a blast to edit...hope fully got the sound recorded through the board, however not a must since probably not competing with curling on tv this time:)
i meant to say that of course RonJ also a trooper for this! and hopefully also tying the visit into some studio work with Liam plus continued family visits, post-St Pat's Day
btw, did you get to see the 1968 CBC live, finally? (with the Face of a Thousand People and other gems) that John had mentioned scoring in prior post :)

Hi everybody!
We're back in Rochester. My wife, Pep, and I had a great time last night. It was really a lot of fun meeting John, Paul, Ron, Char and all the others. John and Paul really put together a great show, and they must have done a good job of getting the word out because we had a good crowd. John, Paul, Kathy, Ron and Liam all gave excellent performances. I especially enjoyed Ron's CRT and John and Paul's I'll Tag Along.
This morning we got up and took John's suggestion to have breakfast at Jonathan's in Aurora, and we weren't sorry. Excellent pancakes and omelettes and a great atmosphere. I doubt the HoJo's would have compared well. The drive home was fine. Traffic through Toronto was lighter than yesterday, though I sometimes felt I had inadvertently stumbled into a racecourse.
Anyway, the experience was a good one for both of us and it left me wanting to do more of the same someday.
jj: I'm pretty sure all my Lightfoot videos are linked to in my cover thread. I haven't put up anything new since November for various reasons. The latest problem is that I can't seem to get my audio equipment to do what it had been doing in the past. For some reason, the audio quality that I'm getting now is really unsatisfactory. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I'll keep working on it.
take care all!

There was a huge variety covered right from the beginning right thru to the Harmony LP. I should have kept a set-list!
John had them written down and I'm sure each artist can provide a more comprehensive (and correct) list.
We could have sat there for hours enjoying ourselves!

Even as I write this ...my head hurts. And without looking it up ...I can't even say what is correct.
My guess right now that its Ron Jones... Am I right?

Ma'am,
Why did you do that ? Mr. Jones was at the threshold of legendary status, and one of the best ways to achieve that is to have two different identities.

How about this for a memory aid: Ron's first name has one vowel in common with his last name. Of course if "Ron" is short for "Ronald" then I guess this won't help much. Hmmn....

Wow! What an amazing fun gig and week long holiday this turned out to be.
An honor indeed it was to get to hang out and work with these wonderful and talented artists.
And to be there at the same table with Char, her daughter Lisa, my two sons, Liam and Greg, and my very special friend Eileen, who, together with her lovely family puts me up and also puts up with me when I travel to Toronto; could I really ask for more?
The show finished with all of us back on the stage together singing "Rich Man's Spiritual," and although I slept through most of the flight back to Vancouver, upon landing I woke with feeling like I was wearing the "long white robe and "golden slippers."
And last, but not least, my "smiling angel" was at the door to greet me when I arrived home.
Very blessed I am.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and my dear RJ played chauffeur for me and Lisa too - picking us up in Toronto and then driving us all the way home after the evening was over!
We had a wonderful time from the very moment we saw him till he pulled away from the house.
It was great to share the night with RJ's sons and his friend Eileen and I hope we can all get together again later this summer when RJ is back here..and maybe James can make it too..along with John and Paul and the gang.
We'll try to make it work out!
thanks RJ !!

The pleasure was all mine Char and yes it would be wonderful to do it all again and hopefully make it a sort of tradition an keep it alive.
On another note, I recall when we returned from our little jaunt out to get food, Paul Bartlett was sitting on his stool playing Johann Sebastian Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."
This masterpiece of music I understand was a favorite of Red Shea and Paul plays it very beautifully.
I'm not sure if the cameras were rolling at that particular time but it really would be treat for the folks if that special moment was captured.
Cheers, RJ.

I have the videos from the other camera...got them from Paul. ..his was the other camera. Haven't gone through them all yet.
But...maybe we're all gonna get legal action against us for playing 'covers' and putting them up on the 'net'. (see thread in Covers--'Softly')
I can list the ones Paul and I did but not Tim or Ron's ..... had a list of theirs but thats gone now. (maybe ..once i view the dvd's from paul's camera ..and if they are all there...i can make a note..be happy to)

I remember well what my lawyer always told me: "It's never as bad as it seems."
That is until the bill arrives of course..
OK back to the songs; and oh yeah wasn't that a fun night though eh?
So the tunes as Char requested are: "Triangle," "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "Same Old Obsession," The Circle is Small," and "Don Quixote."
Beautiful little Canuck town outside Toronto where the country kinda comes a stealing in subtly in that country way.
It's Aurora town, the hometown of the master accomplished lead guitar composer for Gordon Lightfoot; Red Shea, and his sound was alive and well in that hall with his two fine students, John Stinson and Paul Bartlett leading the show.
Very enjoyable evening it was thanks again guys and gals for putting it all together.
Cheers, RJ.

John,
A little late after the show, but I just wanted to say that I thought you performed great and your rendition of B of Y was "A1" as they say! As you know from bros Paul, that is one of my favourite songs from GL's.
Want to add that it was great getting all the other GL fans under one roof!
Hope to see many of you in Nov.
