I was looking over the episode list for the Johnny Cash Show
When I came across a listing from Jan 1971

Gordon Lightfoot sings "When Uncle Bill Quit Dope".

Does anyone have any idea of what this is?

that one's by Dick Feller - i thought it was about cocaine

there's youtube footage of Cash singing it, but never saw Gord do it (the song)

I'm glad Gord didn't perform many tunes along these lines...but as he said, you need to have some story telling', toe tappers for the audience to keep them from nodding off (well, he could play a whole set of ballads and I'd certainly never nod off...whereas I tend to get drowsy during Cotton Jenny, etc)...I still remember buying the Dream Street Rose LP, turning the cover over and being shocked and let down when I saw The Auctioneer on there...these tunes are more up Cash's, Dylan's, Ray Stevens or Jim Stafford's alley, imo anyhow
