Go both sets of Huskies. I don't think the men will make it all the way; they are one shooter short, and all you have to do is make sure Thabeet gets in foul trouble early to stop them. The women, on the other hand, look unstoppable.
I've been rooting for UConn since the days of Toby Kimball and Wes Bialasuknia and Tony Hanson, and have two degrees from UConn; these are good days indeed to be a Huskies fan.

oh I beg to differ...I think UConn will Thabeet MI State!!! Great lady Huskies team for sure I'm looking forward to at least one I84 traffic jam, hopefully two.
ah yeah wow you go wayyyyy back!!! Just dated yourself there ;). I was a Holy Cross fan back then!! My days go back as far as John Gwynn (who was my son's tutor) up to Ray Allen. Only other player from the men's team I met besides John was Travis Knight. The guys only went to class maybe the last day. I was following the women's team more closely while I was a student. Carla Berube and a few others were in some of my classes. lol and saw Kara Wolters in the Big Y one day and she made the grocery cart look so tiny.
Just picked up 5 UConn basketball yearbooks and Geno's autobiography (In pursuit of perfection) to give to my uncle.

Well, I only dated myself because no one else would; it's been a long time...
It's interesting what you said about "the guys only went to class maybe the last day". I was a TA for about 7 years at UConn, teaching two classes a semester, with about 25-30 students per class, in a college where they had a 4-semester language requirement. Somehow, I only had one "student-athlete" ever in my Spanish classes. I suspect the whole "student-athlete" thing is about 1 part student and 19 parts athlete.
I stick to my predictions about the men. They should beat M. State (God, I hope so; my wife's family is from Michigan) because they match up well, but could get into trouble if Thabeet gets in early foul trouble as he sometimes does, and Price has an off night (if you'll notice, he's been scoring OK, but not shooting well, and gets a bunch of points off of free throws; M. State is too disciplined to foul him that much, I think). That's where Dyson would have been useful--another scorer when one of the other ones has an off night. I know that it's easy to say that (what's his name? senior moment-the fast freshman who had 23 points last game) will be that scorer, but look at what happened in the women's game tonight. You had Tiffany Hayes, who scored 28 in the last game, dribble every ball off her foot, miss every shot, throw every pass away, and foul out early in the second half. "Can't depend on love"--and can't depend on freshmen in the tournament.

ok quick rundown...
It appears that Dyson's knee is in pretty good shape now but Thabeet injured his hand/fingers during last Saturday's game...bad for practices but should be ok for the upcoming games. Yeah...I made that a plural ;)
The freshman who scored the 23 points is Kemba Walker . This is a very good, all-around solid team and not like the days where we had 3 good players who could all have an off game at the same time and nobody able to come off the bench like Walker.
Am so excited to see the women's team advance but I can just hear Geno screaming at Tiff!!!
lol I was totally clueless about what went on with these students while I was a student there- in my early 30's and didn't pay attention to those things. It was one of my anthropology profs who told about the last day of class tradition...where the players will try to make it to class to sign autographs . Yeah so they have tutors though we had one football player in my social anthro class and I didn't even know it until my prof told me (my prof was upset with him-he thought the kid was smoking pot).
Most of these student athletes are exceptionally bright and very serious about academic work. It's great to see the colleges buckling down and more of the kids are graduating now. Tough for those who want to get in the pros while they have a chance -rather than keep playing in college and risk getting injured. A couple of brilliant students come to mind -who were able to graduate in 3 years...Ray Allen and Omeka Okafor.
WOW...7 years!!! I always admired my TA's -lots of hard work and dedication there.
Oh if I have the chance before I pass along the basketball yearbooks to my uncle...some retro stuff I'll try to scan and pass along here for you :).

Hi, Podunk.
Sorry thing didn't pan out for us. I was wrong about Thabeet (he had a very good game, without foul trouble), but I'm afraid I was right about everything else:
1) UConn needed another outside shooter. Nobody did anything from outside, and Mich.S. just kept packing the middle all evening.
2) A.J. Price was not shooting well, and this really hurt us. I think he ended up something like 5 for 19 (ugly).
3) As I said, you can't count on freshmen in the Final Four. Kemba Walker was the biggest goat of the game--lots of turnovers, 5 missed foul shots in a row, three very bad mistakes after UConn made the final push to get within 3 points towards the end.
I was at my college earlier this afternoon, and was talking to our athletic director. He had been an assistant coach for UConn women's basketball several years ago, and has stayed close to both the Men's and Women's programs. We often talk hoops. I told him I didn't think we'd win today, and he also was not optimistic.
I'm glad I'm not a betting man (haven't ever even bought a lottery ticket), because I would have had to bet against my team today.
I'm wondering if this will be Calhoun's last stand. Next year, no Thabeet, no Price, no Adrien among others; his health is not good, he's 67, and now there are the NCAA allegations to worry about. It would have been nice to bow out with another title, but now might be the time.

yeah DQ you were right, I was in denial. Great MI State team and they deserve and earned this win! The 1st 1/2 was great to watch. UCONN looked very tired and lacked physical stamina...and Adrien was pissing me off. No use trying to yell at him from my UNK's senior housing apartment .
MI State had some great plays (at least 4, I counted) with outside shooting and all UCONN had was an inside game that wasn't enough to compete. Lousy rebounding too. UCONN seemed to lose momentum after Adrien lost it there. And even then - they had plenty of opportunity but they kept shaking their heads and I knew they didn't want it bad enough to make it happen. MI State had better endurance for sure.
I thought coach looked great and perhaps will still retire after this season...making it to the Final 4 is a great accomplishment. Somehow I can't see him doing that just yet but almost seems like it would be best for him with having been pounced on by the Guv over the comments about his salary and now the recruitment allegations issue -which I read the article about what happened to Richard Hamilton with his former manager ripping him off. Greed omg.
We have more faith in the Lady Huskies and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game :D. If you were a betting man...you'd know where to go there. My UNK told me for the men's team that the bet is called "UCONN +4"...which could have happened tonight.
Well I still did enjoy watching the game and this is the 1st time this season that I got to go over my UNK's -which I used to do much more often when I lived closer...but now he has a girlfriend too so we don't get together as much.
Speaking about getting together...anyone who might want to come out this way for some duckpin bowling ...would be great. Gee DQ you're one of just a few of us on the board here who lives closest to our alma mater here.

You're still not over losing out on our bet  ?????? gee, hard to tell ;)!!!!
Sympathies on the Huskies. You'll like the results from the women much better.
Working on those duckpins.
Meanwhile, you know that doctor in NJ that got his license pulled because 5 people he was treating got hepatitis? Guess how my doctor is, er, was.....
Blood all over the place
MEDIC !!!!
I had the Hep B routine back in 02 before I went to China.
The killer is this was supposed to be one of the best guys in the county. The SK doctor is waiting on a report from this guy. I'll call them tomorrow and see what's up.
The good news is overall I've been feeling less trung out. I'm either getting better or getting used to it - and I think it's the former.
Recalled hip? Doh! Getting an interesting "Dear Pam, We don't know who to say this, but..." letter from the manufacturer soon?
Not going anywhere near that last line....
Well, I told you you'd like what the Lady Huskies better than the men. Looks like they'll get that perfect season.
It is pouring like mad out here. The dog just got out....

Looks like it's going to start raining here at any moment. Am trying to get out of the house to run errands but am on hold (for 23 mintutes) on call.
haha sorry about 'the last line' ...as usual I was joking. It's really 3 hot guys ;)
3 hot guys, huh? Well I suppose fair is fair in these things....
If I were going to indulge in such fantasies I'd need to get in shape and find a good divorce lawyer but other than that.....
