View Full Version : Lightfoot NON-covers - Gord himself
I thought I'd put these links in this forum until they find a home in another area - the cover artists and fans might like to see the real deal over the years - I also buried these in an old thread on the GL forum
this thread will be deleted or moved along with about 15 of the 25 other threads that don't belong here, it should be cover Artist names only, no?
enjoy and add any others from TV broadcasts or pro live recordings - I purposefully omitted the Reno DVD for various reasons, mainly all can easily purchase it

Well there ya go!! ..I've been working all day on a list like this!!
I finished the Misc.covers from previous posts at SMALL talk. Now I have GEN.Discussion forum to go through..
except I thought we were linking without the actual videos??
I was going to have Florian start a separate FORUM for LIGHTFOOT videos.
oh, mid-week I'd said I'd get my current archive of links to covers and GL TV soon as I could if it would help ...it took a few days extra cos they were on my Mac and that e-mail aint happening of late, I left jump drive at work and I wasn't gonna right em out by looking at Mac monitor and jotting on paper then typing them in this thing....can you imagine the typos attempting those youtube urls! lol
i hope you found some TV stuff that I might not have seen or my list overlooked...previously I just purely search youtube and not corfid, that image character test i have to decipher and type out drives me nuts...i know johnF explained it but i dont see the need...this aint an ATM...i'm just searching! lol
ok, i violated the embed rule mainly cos Gord doing covers of his own stuff is special...and until we have pages of his stuff (please!) it all fit on one page...i can change it if it's upsetting any members on dialup...i can't believe i forgot to give the Thumbs Up icon to this Gord thread...as rm point out, thread starters cannot change or delete their dumb moves, agh

thumbs up..
can ya spell LIGHTFOOT correctly in the title of the thread?? i could change it in my reply...

I was going to have Florian start a separate FORUM for LIGHTFOOT videos.
I thought I'd put these links in this forum until they find a home in another area
great, yeah, that's what i meant by 'another area'...what i typically see is a media links section, an uncluttered, a concise list of links off the home page...whatever works for you guys...hope the gord and cover links saved some work, i know jesse could have saved you even more work:)
nice fixo of the typo, lol
oh, i filtered out the links i archived and only posted these TV appearances, since they are pro...sure, there are a boatload of bootleg live performaces you can add til the cows come home, lol...if including promo videos there are some more around, bad quality for sure...if you want to really expand the scope and beef up the #pages, start adding the vistories...like i said, this was just pro TV stuff plus you great SFAWN video:) ...i was gonna add TV interviews but couldnt find many, cheers (it's that time!)
ps) here are a few more non-performance videos...i am not a fan of looking at video while listening to gord unless it's live...imo, only bad music needs visuals to salvage it...i generally also don't like MTV, CMT, videos... which is kinda ironic, lol
YouTube - Shadows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHOwLm-7YFw&feature=related)
YouTube - Blackberry Wine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RenK5bBfwpc&feature=related)
ps2) when the links here find a home, gotta filter out all of the chit chat i've aleady cluttered it with and go back to those nice clean non-embedded titles;)

Clouds of Loneliness - Peekskill NY - Apr.29,2007-
there's some good concert footage and some of songs we don't here anymore so I'll post those..
YouTube - Gordon Lightfoot-LIVE in concert- Clouds of Lonliness
sure, but it's all in a different league than the tv produced stuff
my thinking for attracting new fans and getting them interested in buying Gord cds and attending current concerts (even Gord fans who just might have attended since the baritine voice era) is that these live bootlegs might turn them off ...it really does no justice to the actual live experience...maybe they just need a sub-thread or whatever....maybe some folks just do like the raw live bootlegs and rather are uninterested in the polished TV stuff, what do i know:)
i certainly dont see bootlegs linked off of off other artist home pages, lol...it is not encouraged...i think the only one i considered was Me and Bobby Magee ...i wouldnt mind seeing some pre-1990 or even pre-2000 bootlegs and could cope with the blair witch shakiness and cruddy audio...i'm more interested in the song intros & anecdotes
oh, i came back to comment about the "unembedded" links you've pasted, char...many are corrupt...maybe a carriage (or stroller, lol) return problem...wanted ya to check it out before you keep going...*try leave a line between songs and put the link all in one line
you're right, char...my embedding of those videos lead to too much scrolling, regardless if it's Gord:) ...i've edited my posts above
you know, if i landed on a thread like this 10 years ago (before I'd seen or recalled even 25% of this stuff) I know I'd be ecstatic!

jj - I admire and thank you, Char, and (?others?) for this effort. It is an intelligent partitioning to make. ;)
A few thoughts:
-Forgive the observation w/o being integrally involved in any way in this effort myself, so an uninformed thought based on reading some posts back and forth only mildly suggests that you jj, Char, and others thoughtfully volunteering their time - such as you jj et al would benefit from a bottom-up approach to ideas mining (which appears to be allready done), subsequent refining, then up to you and Char coordinating the efforts of that which involves Florians additions/changes, after those changes, a top-down implementation starting with Char and/then you jj,delegation & implementation of filling -in, moving, categorizing, copying, linking outward/inward etc. to populate (there is a BIG task) the new partitions, but reading Char's Q/reminder on which/what forum sections to add, versus the much-appreciated efforts you are making jj (been wondering what kind of working sabbatical you were on :) - simply sounds like the coordination has only a couple of questions back and forth from you and Char, which considering the complexity level of what you guys are doing is remarkable.... - so if you are saying now "what is Steve trying to say ?" ..lol.. That would be"My compliments to a large amount of work allready done that all of us will benefit from, and I admire you2 and anyone else involved (Jesse Joe, Sir John et al ?) - this would seem right up their alley to help you guys on.
* and BTW ,the 'BURYING" WAS A GOOD IDEA - If I am reading the intent properly - very smart, Hogan ;)
lastly
* I see a need for a coordinated effort in tags to have corfid pull-up more. If I read the level so far, and of course you guys could be way ahead of me on this, is to have a knowledgable person in search-engine practice speerhead an effort more 'enterprise-wide" (I allways hated that in meetings, its usually a showboat term to simply 'say' and baffle everyone into thinking you are whats up in IT - that I have heard guys say that couldn't find their server-multiplexer with a six-man search party lol) - but here in unconventional terms fits the bill IMO - take cordfid's maximum tags and other limitations coordinated so as the 'pull' to corfid is out there flagged in a way that will most effectively pull in prospective members, AND introduce people (a whole new generation) to The Man (harder now w/o the Tribute Vistories).
From my limited ability to see or know what is going on beyond simple thread-serving tags to pull in ppl to a given thread, we need a concerted effort to set-up entire-forum-wide tags to most effectively do this and remove any resources being guzzled by individual threads. I added a thread tags string today, in order to see what tomorrow's time slice in web server's will show when I search from info.com as my search engine of prefernce - as it invokes about the 6 most popular engines simulataneously, and coordinates the output. It is less subject to those damned 'sponsored' hyperlinks. At least they are ID'd as such.
But I'll see how easily I can pull ppl into Cordfid from the tags I slapped on Lyrics quizzers. I looked out at the forum w-ide level, and the 5 (?) total partitions we have now level, and didn't see any, sys-admin *only* level with Florian ? I slapped my forum name only to see if I could quickly pull from Myspace, where I use the same forum name. Facebook seems to be taking over as the "grown up professional" less cutesy mee-ism "Ilike to run on the beach and then have tacos ! he heh eheeh" - that I find rather cloying in Myspace anymore. There are still plenty of good people on it - many corfidites, and PeeWee Charles etc. , but when Microsoft embed hooks in to FaceBook and not MySpace - the writing is on the wall. Its co-op with Micrsoft or die, as I see it.
And every whrer you look in linked sites, Facebook is appearing as Avitar/Icon to auto-link the site with your facebook account. I know I am changing. The 'buying of friends and having others as pets' is way to sophomoric for me to enjoy. So al I am saying is to have a coordinated effort with whatever tags limitations we have - and are we soaking them allready at the individual thread level - a new but burgeoning practice in users threads. Mine is an experiment, then I'll communicate and coordinate as Char/Florian deem fit.
jj ans Char - thank you again for all you efforts we all benefit from  :headbang:

thanks!..I have no idea what else you said but thanks!
lol
ditto, (except i perfectly understand steve's geotext, lol)
i assume you're speaking of the gord links, there must be more also...no Gzowski to be found or other classic clips?
char was the force behind this weeks' find and link organization, i had to mainly just hunt down work i had done over the past year, less intense accomplishment
as for "covers" , rm a big force behind that initiative...i've got my own sort by Song going offline, which suits my interests...the Artist sort is working pretty good and just needs some tweaks, perhaps more maintenance intense also
char, needs to delete a bunch of threads so that only those that contain songs by Artists remain...and that Misc thread is chaos...i had to search all over when i found more covers in order to see if they were aready posted...i think the Artist forum should just be threads that have link (and perhaps a sample of a cover) to the Artist channel and let anyone interested help themself
i wonder how many artists we've listed thus far, hard to count
i wonder how many GL tunes have been covered...a challenge to all (members and performers) is to find new ones that have never been covered...i came across Dreamland and Sweet Guinevere just recently and will post
there are many Artists many of us know but are not posted or do not have any links of their covers...Ed, Melissa, Derek, RonJ, BillH, etc...there are small clips in some of the montages but i'd love to hear/see versions start to finish sometime:)
thx, again, steve..and all appreciate your relentless Quiz prep fun (not to mention the commentary!!!!) , it's a winner:)
ps) steve, your afterthought (ie. "lastly" and what i term a ps) ) just SHATTERED my record for the longest last minute thought addition to a post...char is contacting Guinness this very minute, lol :)

jj - i agree about the listing i did and then looking to see if a video is already there when you come across it at youtube...
the whole thing could turn into a mish mash of threads and even if it is sorted as of this minute in a conclusive way suitable to all, it will only take one new thread that has a previously listed video to have the whole house of cards blow up.
in searching for what i have already posted in the misc.thread i came across several links that were posted in several different threads over the course of a couple of years..by the same person..
not sure about the meaning of this: char needs to delete a bunch of threads so that only those that contain songs by Artists remain...
??? clarification??
no word from Guinness..other than have another pint and call me in the morning..
not sure about the meaning of this: char needs to delete a bunch of threads so that only those that contain songs by Artists remain...
??? clarification??
ok, char just set a record for the longest char post NOT containing an "lol" ;)
ok, if the thread was by Song it would just have song titles as thread subject lines, with a variety of artist versions within each...that's easy enough to visualize...once/if all songs were covered we might have seen a 200+ thread count, just like good sheets, lol
conversely, here we should just have Artist names and/or their youtube login name as thread subject lines
so far was have an Artist list going as well as many artists (with only a single GL cover) contained in the Misc thread - we must have atleast 25 artists so far when you consolidate
these look good::)

i'm lost.
absolutely lost.
You want each artist that does covers to have a thread of their own?
and each song that has a cover to have a thread of its own?
??
You want each artist that does covers to have a thread of their own?
just what the majority voted for...yes, thread titles should be Artist name
these aren't artist names:
<table x:str="" style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 798px; height: 89px;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><col style="width: 416pt;" width="555"> <tbody><tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt; width: 416pt;" width="555" height="18">
</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">
</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">
</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">
</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">

</td> <td>*Another great piece of work by Tom !</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">

</td> <td>*Restless</td> </tr> <tr style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18"> <td style="height: 13.2pt;" height="18">
</td> <td>*Softly Cover </td></tr></tbody></table>
and if only one cover, the artist song cover goes under Misc
if artist added 2nd cover then gets a thread of his own and his songs are deleted from Misc thread
this Artist sort is labour intensive...you voted for it, lol :p
maybe just can the Misc thread approach...easy solution

can't remember if these 3 at this site have been posted before.
thx, char...i changed my tune a bit regarding posting live bootleg clips of Gord...some of these recordings are not bad mixes (you never have to worry about distortion or peaking anyhow, lol) and most importantly, many of our international member don't have to opportunity to catch Gord live these past few decades
the Watchman - nice mix, love Gord's altered phrasing leading into each verse...what i always love is Mike's deep, hovering strings countering Gord's melody ...they seep in around the 1:45 mark

agh, you got me excited that you had some new video adds, lol
yeah, they're all above in the initial post, chrono order..if there's any new stuff I'll add it in there via edit...i didn't include the 4SW sing a long...i remember being disturbed when they put that Gord (bed head) interview clip amidst his Knotty Pine gem
all that "Get Together" audio stuff is interesting...maybe a rare Gord audio (this one's mainly been video up til now) thread is deserved...some neat covers off that Yellow Bird collection also that I bet heaps of folks haven't heard
btw, i initially had embedded the Gord videos then I realize the heaps of scrolling required to sift down the thread and hence discovered that little check box option

I did my due diligence, yet could not find this performance anywhere in this forum. If it's redundant, disregard........it was new to me.

The poster/collector is obviously a big Lightfoot fan. Check out their other offerings.
it looks like the EMR upload comes from a decent copy of the PBS telecast, highest quality i've seen anyhow... from www.lightfoot.ca "Ah yes, the legendary Soundstage Special. Lightfoot performed Cotton Jenny, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, Endless Wire, Summertime Dream, Don Quixote, If You Could Read My Mind, Ghosts Of Cape Horn (the first performance ever of this one), Beautiful, Hangdog Hotel Room, Sundown. At this point they broke for intermission and each band member said a few words, while in the background pictures and sounds from an earlier rehearsal were seen and heard. The second set went like this - Early Morning Rain, Whisper My Name, On The TV (later to become On The High Seas), Old Dan's Records and the Canadian Railroad Trilogy"
they cut off CRT after 1/3 of the tune so I call it Canadian Railroad Unilogy
great, rm, this one surely belongs in this thread...your diligence was overdue
welcome to pm your mail addy if missing the full set...i'll dig into the cobwebs & dust
i recently checked out my copy (i believe it's an +/- 11th generation version) of the 79 PBS and, well, this one is WAY clearer and really good audio...i wish this guy had the entire concert posted especially On the TV/High Seas and Whisper My Name...good find, rm...check it out, newbies
YouTube - Gordon Lightfoot - Early Morning Rain (Live in Chicago - 1979)
yes, i'm violating the no embedding rule in order to give it full visual promo!
I did my due diligence, yet could not find this performance anywhere in this forum. If it's redundant, disregard........it was new to me.

The poster/collector is obviously a big Lightfoot fan. Check out their other offerings.

Wow! Thank you for posting these tunes! Gord is awesome! Since I've barely gotten the concept of e-mail I'm not sure what I was reading (the word "embedding" scares me) but I know I heard some great tunes.
Thanks again guys and gals.

I hear you jj just got to see your post here... Sorry about that... I missed a few days and must have gotten past this one.
Are you saying that all my latest VHS & DVD transfers plus future ones should all be posted here on this thread ?
BTW that Soundstage performance is the best that I've also seen, because I have it on VHS & it is not good video or audio. :)

sorry, just saw this....yes, was suggesting that (or that a section off the home page for video links be created, similar to the treasure vault of pics and interviews) but you have so many that you could make your own thread consolidating them rather than a new thread for every video clip, and make it under the GL Discussion ...just a thought
btw, i got a e-mail saying my videos were appreciated but how certain folks were downloading youtube videos of GL and other artists and creating DVDs for sale...i never thought of that and just wanted to share with the members...so mine are now pulled but hope many got to enjoy during our recent video posting fest...i never had seen Gord do Shadows on TH show, thanks!:)

Gee whiz ! Maybe then I should do the same as you did, because I also have had many positive emails about my uploads but nothing mentioned about people downloading videos to put them up for sale & that is wrong. There would have been lots more to come... maybe time to (S T O P)http://forum.mininova.org/style_emoticons/default/computer-smash.gif ! http://forum.mininova.org/style_emoticons/default/PC%20Punch.gifThanks for that info jj... I had never thought of that myself. Too bad for the folks here that seem to enjoyed them for their first time!

someone a while back was creating an unofficial bio for GL using all sorts of info (quasi-personal GL stuff that some of the hardcore corfidians would know and have shared) from here and elsewhere...anyhow, whether they profit or not from that stuff and these videos and other treasure chest of articles and images is hard to control, hey, it's pure capitalism, lol
as a compromise, i have pm-ed or emailed the limited access urls (or rapidshared the files) for some of the stuff to members who have shown interest...that's also works well for family and friends sharing, saves a ton of dvd copying and mailing
anyhow, food for thought that i was also naive to...but it feels good to share, enjoy sharing your years of taping...and don't bother consolidating a thread if it's working well for you and others:)

To all the first videos posted, I got the same message. This is a private video, etc.
How do I get to watch them?
