I got to talk with Gordon for a short time about Red in Little Rock. He was very sad that Red had passed and had great praise for him. He said, "We're talking about a guy here, who was such a great guitarist and was such a sought after teacher, that he had a hard time fitting them all in. He always had more students than he could handle. He was a wonderful guy and raised up some fine kids and we miss him. We're very sad that he left us."
Red obviously meant a lot to Gord. Of course, he means a lot to all of us too. Red was very expressive in his playing. He brought things to Gordon's music that have made it unique and powerful. Put the headphones on one day and listen to IYCRMM underneath the string arrangement. That is one beautiful piece of guitar work.
Here's to Laurice Milton Shea!

I caught that smile! :) I just love the interplay (no pun intended) - the looks and "handoffs" - among musicians, especially great ones! (Is that the proper term?) I guess it's part of the communication involved with the shared language of music, as I heard it described recently. :headbang:
Thanks for the great post!

It is interesting that the uploader of this video attributed it to 1967 because it is clearly one of the two videos from the familiar (to some) Music Scene television program as broadcast in 1969 and included in Volume 7 of a series of videotapes besides which the bass player looks much more like the young Rick Haynes who did not join Gord until October 1968 than his predecessor John Stockfish

Great observation John, that is why I posted it in the first place. Because of the 67. I thought it was a new video that had not been posted before... But it is probably like you said from 69, with a young Rick Haynes. One thing for sure, it sounds great. :)

a google alert (which I am thankfully now receiving regularly again) took me to
http://www.blueheronblast.com/2009/03/gordon-lightfoot-with-great-red-shea.html
where the poster headed a video
"Gordon Lightfoot with the great Red Shea
and imbedded the great Musicscene 1969 video previously posted by Omer
here when he opened this thread
(just where did Jesse Joe go??
is he still flying blind??
His last three posts were on December 10th I must email him to see wassup!!
Whatever I never tire of watching that video despite "For Lovin'Me " not being anywhere near my list of favoUrite /GL songs
one comment on the youtube page caught my eye:-
"Just another thought on Red's playing. Look at the smile on his face. You KNOW he was having fun doing this, and that's what made his playing special."
I was amused to see in another alert that google had picked up a mention I had made of both Gordon and corfid on a great site I visit every day without fail:-
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
the alert link was to:-
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/png2icon-10/
a free "giveaway" on Saturday only of a program to make icons from pictures
but actually you have to go to the full "comments" page
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/png2icon-10/#comments
and scroll down to number 56 for my posting
To save you the bother I said:-
"It remains to explain why one would want to create icons anyway.
A good example is the main website for my musical hero Gordon Lightfoot, If you visit http://www.corfid.com you will find that the site owner has incorporated a small GL icon that appears in your address bar before the URL on every page.If you have a website especially a commercial one such a minor touch might well make your site stand out from the motley"
As for the program I found another comment had listed a freeware alternative:-
http://download.cnet.com/3000-2192_4-10595470.html Easy Picture2Icon
which I found far more satisfactory to use than png2icon
and here are two icons made from Pam's Fort Wayne Indiana "taser" picture
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk//LIGHTFOOT/images/Fort_Wayne_16.JPG
16 pixels square
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk//LIGHTFOOT/images/Fort_Wayne_48.JPG
48 pixels square
I converted both of the original .ico icon files to jpg using Microsoft Paint so that I could display them here

I totally agree, there is some great guitar work here. Aong with Ordinary man, amd Miquel to name a quick couple of others this really showcases great guitar work. This could one of the rare ones that we listen to the music as much as we do to the lyrics.

Well I sent the usually vociferous Jesse Joe a Private Message saying
"Hi Stranger
It will soon be 4 months since you posted on corfid are you and/or your computer OK???"
The good news is that although there is no respones as yet to me or the forums the corfid message system has flagged my message in my sent folder as read.
Did somebody offend him or suggest that he stop posting???

Well, Sir John, none that I'm aware of... just sort of took a vacation and forgot to come home!!!!!
I started a thread some time back trying to coax our Jesse Joe out of his hiatus, but to no avail!
Perhaps you'll have better results.
Yeah, what has become of Jesse Joe?
Anyway I absolutely love Red's playing. Always have.
What the heck ever happened to John Stockfish? I know Rick came in at Sunday Concert but John would show up for a song or two here and there - like on Sundown.
What the heck ever happened to John Stockfish?
hey, fezo...we were trying to track that fairly recently:

hope he's well, a kind guy...someone reported he passed on his IP renewal...there must be local library where he could drop by and say hi...he would lover the new covers section:)
