Mister hoot'n holler?? (maybe not!)
Mister hoot'n holler?? (maybe not!)
oh yes, he was on the original list as were a few other suggestions
some good ones folks, thanks (is the list exhausted at this point?)
btw, I was really looking for "proper nouns" when I say "names"
I guess Lord and God are...I don't think bossman or gypsy are
Mama = borderline...I didn't realize Glory and Lavender were characters
Oh Linda - when I say "GL penned" I meant that he wrote them
otherwise we could add Patsy Cline, Wilf Carter, Diamond Joe, etc
char, what tune is Davy Jones from?
(rm, looks like this thread won't be visiting his locker, eh :p )

TRIANGLE -
Oh the best of all things is the first day of spring
When when the water runs heavy and fast
The mermaids have all gone to Davy Jones' Ball
And it seems their first trip was their last
I guess Lord and God are...
Well, if they can get in, then so can
Jesus
(rm, looks like this thread won't be visiting his locker, eh :p )
I don't know.......rumors are that the gales of November may come early this year.

patti, is junebug a reference to someone?
Thanks for putting those in alphabetical order.
Is there any possibility of Big Blue getting on the A-List ? Uncle Toad made it.
How about Jim ?
"But they say he fell in with a man named Jim
And he rides in the rodeo"

Good One!
Is there any possibility of Big Blue getting on the A-List ? Uncle Toad made it.
there are a few grey area ones but song lyrics as per Wayne's lightfoot.ca were used as the data source for final ruling...names/proper nouns (Capitalized in the lyrics) were accepted
some examples:
in> Boss Man, Morning Glory, Uncle Toad
out> gypsy, big blue, watchman
Edmund Fitzgerald and Marie Christine are boats rather than 'named characters' found in song lyrics, but since they are song titles I've accepted them (unless the democratic corfidian society votes to oust them)
also, Abraham was given consideration from the 'plains of Abraham' but that is better suited to Waynes already published "Lightfoot Geography" list
for consistency, I also revised some names to their full form (Sweet Guinevere, Daylight Katy, etc) but left Allison as is...all debatable

What about a parenthetically-referenced Name in the SONG Title, as in :
on the LP, anyway,
Your Love's Return (Tribute to Stephen Foster) - by memory
I realize this is not mainstream at all what you had in mind, but.. ?
I simply want to participate when I see a compadre open shop in a new thread
thx for playing, steve
not looking for mainstream (there's tons of rarities on the list) but am looking for reference in lyrics...(Song for Stephen Foster) is wonderful but no go
note: Beautiful (Song for Char) also doesn't not qualify;)

IC - OK :p just for clarity, I did not mean mainstream as in you were looking for mainstream songs, bur rather classically envisioned answer-types - which I knew going in (song name)(for yayda y yad ya) was not. s'ok- worth a shot and I like to stop in a new shop of a friend.
Have I re-vived the old fun monster of GAMES in corfid with lyrics ? All of A sudden - we have like 5 or something threads on quizzers - though they may not say that... - I think its fun - 's why I started 'mine' ? We havn't done these in over 2 years - 3 almost by my rekining' :headbang:

I can't remember the name myself. But I remember it was something like "Then I'll take it home to Mollie". It might have been the song that goes "Blackfall the Daddy-O, There's Whiskey In The Jar".
It seems like there are actually two songs that mention the name Mollie. I'll give them a listen and then post back in here. ;)

I really was thinking more along the lines of significance, jj.
Significant son of the significant father...and mother.
good stuff, patti:) so we add Daddy, Mama and Son, eh?
hey folks, if Sundown works, then how about Harmony?
Patti
10-26-2008, 02:49 AM
That could be good.
I thought 'knotty pine' might be also along the same lines but is more an example of personification and/or an anthropomorphism (looked up)
