Go, Leafs, clobber those nasty RedWings, just on general principles (not to mention what Detroit did to the Pens, my "other" team :()!

Score is 1-0, Leafs at this point!

wow, the game is televised way out in Oregon? that's a long way from either city, cool

the Leafs are clearly out to defy the 125:1 odds of their winning the Cup, lol

Robert's (the kid) anthem is clearly the HNIC anthem winner

...let em edit my self righteous post...i just mean it suits the telecast intro video the best, no?

imo, the other finalist would be more fitting for the AHL

...as an aside, I suggest Clint take up something like chess
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3634678
...a speedy recovery to him, regardless

I don't quite understand the whole pre-game concert and pots game concert stuff. especially with those acts..
The Toronto Maple Leafs took a 3-2 win in their first regular season game against the Detroit Red Wings. Pavel Kubina, Dominic Moore and Nikolai Kulemin scored for the Leafs, while Tomas Holmstrom scored twice for the Red Wings.
yeehaw - one down...81 to go!! yeah - that 41 year wait is almost over!
lolol
omigoodness i can make myself laff sometimes..

I didnt see pregame...I now realize it's a Cup banner party from Detroit (I guess the organizers werent counting on the Leafs to poop it) and perhaps Def Leppard hail from there...I didnt know the tunes

anyhow, I couldnt take the excitement so switched to baseball...just saw Jeff Kent for the first time in decades, since Jay days...looks ageless

in summary, looks like Leafs may just finish too lousy for the playoffs but too good for a decent draft pick...they've got Blue Jay syndrome

Actually, it wasn't televised :( I just saw the score on the web. But I watched the news and they were saying that the wings put up their banner and things went downhill from there. And I said to myself YES, that must mean the Leafs won! WOO-HOO! I hope the Canadian Lightheads don't mind if I call them "My Leafs"! (Next Saturday, I see they are playing "my" Pens; that's gonna be a hard one to watch, if it's televised!) I have family and friends in Pittsburgh; that's why they're my Pens.

Anyone familiar with the Western Hockey League? Portland has a team - the Winterhawks; one of these days maybe I'll get to a game.

As someone who has ice skated, I am just so impressed by all their skating!

the winterhawks, absolutely...i used to collect whl, chl and qmhl cards watching for the next great pro talent...most are now worthless, even lindros, lol

you guys spit out many household names..cam neely for one...malarchuk (i just posted about his latest mishap)..how about john cordic (sad story...died in police custody in his 20's...he was loaded with cocaine)

how about marion hossa too...your Pens lost him to the Wings this year...the Pens paid a lot for his few goals last year during their run for the Cup, when the owners shell out the big bucks (i enjoy when they get burned like that)

btw, i saw the toronto sun (tabloid paper) front page headline today about Toronto's Cup Parade prep after last night's unexpected win, lol

Leafs Defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo played his junior hockey in Erie, PA for the Erie Otters and they won the OHL championship with Carlo along with Captain Brad Boyes (St. Louis) and Chris Campoli (NY Islanders). Thanks for sharing your countrymen and your national pastime with us. The Niagara Icedogs come to town on Wednesday night at the Civic Center.

Q: The Stanley Cup was recently on tour in my town, and I kissed it. Do I have to worry about being infected by listeria?

A: You are safe. The Stanley Cup has not been in contact with any "Maple Leaf" product in over 40 years.

:)

hey, I agree about Bower...all class...quite active in our community and frequently seen giving autographs at the local Home Hardware (which I hope doens't get put out of business by Home Depot or Walmart)

Christine and other Michigan Lightheads,

I hope you will forgive my unkind remark about the Wings; it's just that I have family in Pgh and recently discovered the Pens (ironically, it was in a Macleans magazine.) The playoffs were the first time I'd actually seen them play, since we rarely get games here in Portland (except that outdoor game in NY)

I apologize.. Go Leafs!

BUT - as a wise man once told me 'Ya GOTTA love the Leafs!"

;)Err Umm Sorry everybody to be pedantic, but surely the plural of "leafs" even when applied to as august a body as the team from Tronno must be "leaves" as in the "of grass" varietal

charlene

well you can be pedantic all ya want sir john..The team is called The Toronto Maple Leafs..or just The Leafs.. as in "I am a Leafs fan"..
;)
old Walt Whitman (and Lightfoot) can say "Leaves of Grass" in their writings but our hockey team is "The Leafs"...
;)
and as Gord states - 'ya gotta love The Leafs!"..
