Here in Canada we are having an election to determine who the next PM will be. Here in Canada an election is called and less than 6 weeks later we have the election..Hundreds of millions are not spent in a 2 year campaign involving families and personal issues of the PM wannabes.. (Well not to any major degree anyway)

So Stephen Harper, the current PM (who called the election and hopes to be voted back into power) surprised all of us with this mini-concert to show his softer side..and his knowledge about our Canadian Icon..

Stephen Harper put on a brief concert for the national media during a campaign stop in Newfoundland.
The prime minister’s piano skills were not widely known before the current election.

But in an attempt to show voters his more sympathetic side, Harper aides have distributed pictures of him at the piano and he has discussed his previously unknown passion for writing poetry.

On Saturday he delivered a live show at the airport in St. John’s, N.L.

Harper played the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Gordon Lightfoot’s “Carefree Highway.”

One of the tough-to-impress journalists — who also happens to be a musician — said he walked away impressed.

Thanks for posting this CHar, Im sure you also know that his son jams with him from time to time... I forget what instrument he plays tho ?? Maybe you know Charlene... :)

I remember seeing Bill Clinton play SAX on Arsenio Hall while on his first Presidential Campaign.

NDP Jack Layton says he's of the former "hippie generation", and plays guitar.

Wouldn't be funny at their debates, that they would have a piano, a guitar, aso...

Carefree Highway,,, I missed that ! :(

how appropriate..."knowing I've got no one left to blame" , lol

we have no VP wannabes to poke fun at (btw, Tina Fey did a nice job on SNL, eh) so we have to wait til our guys are Prime Minister for the fun to begin (like clubbing thiefs with eskimo carvings or choke-holding protesters;) )

I can't wait till the elections are over with down here. A years worth of political commercials are more then enough. :( They drag these things for too long down here in the states.

I wish the US would develop such a short campaigning season....I am so sick of ads of both McCain and Obama attacking each other, and I swear if I see one more picture of Sarah Palin and her family I'm going to emigrate!
