Does anyone know the inspiration/story behind "The Last Time I Saw Her Face"?
Thanks a lot!

If you are asking about "The Last Time Ever I Saw Your Face"...it was a cover done by Gord on "Lightfoot" that was written by E Mac Coll...no Gord story behind it other than the universal one many of us share.
If you are asking about "The Last Time I Saw Her"...Gord wrote in "Songbook"...and I quote..."It's about a breakup of a marriage. In a way, you're predicting what's going to take place, and then it happens. In some sense you play the scene out in your mind, and after the fact, it hits you how close you were to the mark. It makes it a little tough to perform sometimes, but not tough enough to keep a great song down. In a way, it covers the same ground that "If You Could Read My Mind" did years later."
Considering the timing and the reference to IYCRMM, I would say it has something to do with his divorce from Britta...God Rest Her Soul.

Diane, I think you meant to refer here to "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

Yep, Tim, you are right. lol That's what I get for attempting to do something so high brained as posting when I first wake up.
Thanks for setting the record straight. :)

Actually it was originally off of Did She Mention My Name.
Also the opening of it is similar to Softly.
Of course I only know the Re-recorded version of that song but I suppose there's not as much difference between the 2.
