I remember seeing something about shipping disasters on one of the educational channels, and they just happened to show the launching of the Edmund Fitz. The footage that they showed was sort of scarry as it looked as if it almost fell over on it's side in the process. It made me wonder if there was any truth to the story that the Edmund Fitzgeralld had been cursed from day one.

"In November of 1975, the MV Edmund Fitzgerald sank with a hands during a very violent storm in Lake Superior. This tragedy has become something of a regional legend thanks to the song by Gordon Lightfoot. The last vessel to be in contact with the doomed vessel was the MV Arthur M. Anderson, which also was the first ship to go back out into the stormy swept lake to try and rescue any survivors. Because of it's historical connection to the loss of "The Mighty Fitz", it is a favorite among boat watchers. I finally caught up with the ship in Port Huron and this video is a salute to it." A.
