A great performance by another musical hero of mine. Tom Petty w/ his Rickenbacker, and Fender Telecaster Guitars, at Bridgestone half time at the "Super Bowl".
He is almost as cool as Bob Dylan on stage. Great Music !!! :headbang: :)

The Super Bowl crowd sure loved him! :headbang:
I love a lot of his music...what a great band.
I was happy to see the Giants win. What a great game!

i think Refugee would have been a much more cookin' closer than Runnin Down a Dream
long time fan also, surpised they'd booked act with such minimal choreography (ok, none) for half time show - they just played the medley pretty much as recorded and that was that, which is fine with me...those are the types of gigs i take in but not for the masses of today
maybe Gord and the guys arew on the short list for next year:)
imagine the crowd control gates opening and a frenzy of Cordians rushing the stage, heh

I was impressed - Tom and the band sounded and looked great. I thought they might play Refuge too, but liked runnin' down a dream.

Some french sportcasters I was listening to last night were not Tom Petty fans either. They were saying it was really boring. :(

I'm not a fan either and thought it boring..I tuned in by accident while channel surfing and I am not a football fan either and it was while Petty was whining..er I mean singing..lol -
some Toronto TV people thought so too even tho they are fans of Petty and football..
oh well..to each his own..
That Eli Manning is a cutie tho!
I think John Mellencamp would be a great half time show. and even pre-game show!

Personally, I enjoyed hearing Tom Petty perform, it's been a while and he still sounds great after all these years. Loved "Free Falling". I guess I am not a pyrotechnics, larger than life kind of music person...I'd much rather just hear the music without all the added hype.

I think John Mellencamp would be great - retired, never to sing again. He doesn't even know his name, John Mellencamp, John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, back to John Mellencamp. Makes me dizzy(ier).
Now Tom Petty on the other hand....fabulous in the Travelling Wilburys and as one of the Heartbreakers. I missed the football game (whew) but that is okay.
Char I will give you 25 JCM for 1 Tom Petty. We can arm wrestle about it in Florida.
Well, it could have been worse........remember the college marching bands that made up the first half-dozen or so Super Bowl halftime shows ?

I liked Petty's performance ( I actually was tuned in for the championship game ) but many of my younger and some diverse ethnic co-workers not only were bored and went to the bathroom or outside for a smoke but many had no idea who he / they were. It all went awry with poor Janet Jackson's performance. Word has it that it will be many years before we see anything "really" exciting at halftime again.
But from an American Football fan's (the American game not the American fan) perspective that was about the best game since 2001 (when my Ravens beat this year's victorious Giants). I mean it had it all - but then again if you don't like American Football I'm sure it was about exciting as watching your relatives get drunk. To each their own, eh ?

We can armwrestle while Lori drives..Donnie can navigate us to Carrabbas..winner buys the drinks..if I don't make it then armwrestle yourself..let me know how it goes..

It *was* a great game to watch, Bill! Excellent defensive play on both sides, and you never quite knew who would end up with the Lombardi trophy until the last few seconds. I am happy for the Giants, they really pulled together as a team in the post season and it served them well. Nice to see Eli finally step out of his older brother's shadow too. :)
